Ok BYCer's. I don't own a bator, or any desire to have baby chicks. But, I love to hear/read all about your hatches, babies, coops etc. My questions is, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH ALL THE BABIES AFTER THEY HATCH? Do you just keep building more coops? Sell them? You must run out of room to hold all that you hatch. I know this chicken math thing has really gotten to you, but really, that 25 (100) adult birds do take up alot of coop space, don't they? lol

right now i have around 200 birds, in the summer 400 or so, I only run out of room if the weather get cold fast in fall. if i count all my buildings 6, plus 2 calf hutches, plus chicken tractors in the warmer weather

Like TDub, I was also wondering where those chicks go to when they grow up and take up more space. Well, I have 30 something adults free ranging right now, about another 40 chicks in bators right now, and I'm getting the brooders ready for them. For the next 6 weeks, they'll have to stay indoors with us.

Then when they grow up to about 3-4 months old, it'll be spring time, and many people will want laying hens so I'll be planning to sell the ones I don't feel as bonded with. As for the cockerels, I'll try to sell the extra ones too, but if they don't get sold or given away, they'll stay with us till its time to go to freezer camp. We can't keep ALL of them!! Need to make room for more babies... YAY, I'm hooked.

Next year, I already have plans to build two more chicken coops for my expanding flock.

Too funny. So what do you do with the other 200 or so chickens? Do you sell them, send them to freezer camp or do they just get older and die. I'm just so curious as to you chicken lovers or attics that can't seem to stop hatching these lil fluffy butts.
