For the new folks that haven't experienced a molt yet.

Pics
They're combs are all shriveled up, and has anybody noticed how a chicken resembles a porcupine while they are molting?

My Black Australorp hen molted in early August. Her molt was so fast I barely noticed any change in the least.

Mine are showing no signs either, but I think I'll be in the next year category. They are all spring of this year hatches. Thanks for the pic cause I would've freaked seeing one of mine looking like that! Was that gradual or pretty sudden?

This is my first year of my girls moulting, but I think my rooster Lenin is a little rough I can't put jackets on the girls as I live in Spain and it's too warm for that so I got some peck no more which is not easy to apply on the effected areas but I keep trying

The hen in the original post blew her feathers in about 2 weeks to sport that look.

Birds go thru a few molts between hatch and about 4-5 months....they usually don't do a full adult molt until around 18 months old, give or take couple months.

Usually correct.....but tell that to my 9 month old birds that have gone through minor molts.:he Especially when you need them laying!
