For those of you looking for inexpensive fencing.

Quote: If mountain lion is a real possibility, I would go for something a bit more robust. Like 4 gauge cattle panels covered with stucco mesh and razor wire

If you have dogs in the area the puma will generally stay away though.

It should be noted that the holes are 1.5" which is big enough for small chickens to put a head thru.
My full grown Americanas never do but I have seen the chicks do it plenty.
I always make sure they have a fully protected solid wall corner to hide in.

This isn't available in my area (NC). Anyone know of a good online supplier???

The home improvement stores can't order some for you?
I wonder if they would if enough of us got together and requested a large load? I'm in southern VA and would be interested in pitching in. I'm just starting to build my coop/run.

Talk to the Pro Desk at the local Home Depot.
Take the Sku# mentioned above. They should be able to get you some.
They would prefer you order a pallet as it will cost them extra to have it shipped from a store that carries it.
Might take talking to the Manager.

That's what I did my coop in too. less than 1/4 the price of regular chicken wire and at least twice as thick. It would seriously have to be Cujo to get through this wire. My only issue with it is that my silly girls aren't going into their hen house at night and they're sleeping in the run near the fence and I'm certain the holes in it are large enough for a racoon arm to reach through and shred the ladies. :(

Hmmm, great idea. I am thinking about fencing in the whole backyard so the ladies can free range back there and not be stuck in their run all the time. My husband is wanting to get a miniature goat to help with grass issues in the backyard as well (there are a lot of dips back there and it is hard to mow with a push mower) I was thinking about going with the fencing that is squared for the goat but I know that would not help with chickens being back there and I would need chicken wire. I was going to do the squared fencing and then go over it with chicken wire. With this being stronger you think it might work with keeping the goat in as well since it is stronger? Would save a lot of money, lol.

If there is ANY way that the goat can get a toe in the fencing, it will climb (or walk the fence down off it's posts). I've found that most folks actually use the livestock panels (looks like square fencing but MUCH more rigid) for goats. They are wonderfully entertaining and very helpful with yard work, but a real pain to contain.
