For those who dream of owning a horse one day

OK .. so here's my short version of "the girl with the dream" horse. When I was a young girl, I had a poster of the Arabian stallion, Khemosabi. I used to say "Someday I'll own a horse like that."

Years and many horses later, I find myself married with children, and horseless. Chatting on a horse board, in the Christian section. This guy starts "harassing" me about my belief and faith in the bible and an "invisible" god. I banter with him for a couple of days and then he pm's me with some serious questions and asks if I'll pray for him.

He was a Vietnam Vet, dealing with depression and suicide, and about to kill himself. I just talked to him and shared the love of Christ with him .. and, well, long story short, he bought a bible, read all of John and most of Romans and prayed for the first time since the war .. said he slept like a baby. Ended up giving his life to Christ.

In the meantime, he kept trying to give me his two horses, which I refused, because I know what it's like to be depressed and try to get rid of your things ... Finally, I accepted, and he sent me an Arabian mare and her 6 month old filly ... from Ohio to Texas.

When the pedigree arrived, I realized that my mare not only resembled the Khemosabi of my childhood dreams, but that she was, in fact, a Khemosabi great-granddaughter.

Isn't God funny? I had long forgotten that dream until this blessing showed up on my door. (Don't know if the photo will work.) She is my dream.

That's awesome!

As for me, I have my dream horse(s). This is my gelding, he is a rare breed called an American Bashkir Curly. He has CURLY fur and is hypoallergenic. We were national champions in 2006 and he's my favorite curly to ride in demos and expos:

I also own some mares, some young horses, and a young stallion:

Okay .. I know you from somewhere .. lol .. must be a horse board somewhere ..

I love curlies .. and that's your spotted stallion, yes?

you guys are making me want a horse so bad... and I thought I got out of that faze.... I don't want a horse.... I don't want a horse.... I don't want a horse....

I'll satisfy myself with chickens for now.... I know I can get away with those... my neibors would kill me.. (not to mention my hubby) if I came home with a horse.... lol.

I don't know how I would explain a horse.....

well you see I was driving home from work and it was just laying there on the side of the road... I just had to take him home....

WOW, I had never heard of that breed before, and they are absolutely GORGEOUS! And I can't believe, they're practically my neighbors...amazing...

I looked at the "contact us" info and they are in Katy (20 minutes from me) and Bellville (15 minutes from me).

We really really really want horses. I know we will have some someday. My daughter took riding lessons last year and she loved it...still wants the lessons, but they are sooo expesive ($40 per lesson, 1-2 lessons per week). I really think just owning a horse or two would be cheaper than those darn lessons! We have an acre and a half, so we have room, but we need to fence it all in and then build a barn, or some kind of shelter for them. I better go get busy......

Oh, I'm sure!! I work alone and take my break time on forums to get some people-interaction-time.

I'm on COTH and HGS and have posted on a couple other horse forums occasionally.

I've never heard of Gypsy Vanners before today, but that is my childhood dream horse embodied! How weird is that?

Seriously, though, my other childhood dream horse was a mustang. Ever since the 4th grade, when they featured the BLM's new Adopt a Mustang program in the Weekly Reader....wow. I BEGGED my parents, I bribed, I made a general fool of myself. We lived in Milwaukee, WI so obviously it was out of the question.

But now....Every once in a blue moon I think we could swing it. Of course we'd have to board, because I'm dumb and gave up on my dream of living in the country. Well, maybe someday.

my parents told me when I was 14 if I didn't bring another animal into the home when I was 18 they would buy me a horse.......

It was about 6 months before I was caught with a new animal..... I saw an add for a free pair of cockatiels... I couldn't resist...

Looks like Black Forest Shires is going out of business. You might want to attend their auction on the 22nd and 23rd. Here's the link to RSVP on their site: http://gypsyhorses.com/sale/rsvp.htm.

They have one of Lion King's sons up for auction! And wowzer, I think I've fallen for Edward their 2005 gelding.

Wowzer... is right.. he's a beauty... It's lil bun bun a filly that has caught my eye though!

As a kid I had a horse book and the Hafflinger was my Fav breed and I always wanted one. I also love paints or appy's . I've never really looked into the breed differences as far as personality and what would be best suited to me. I would if I got serious about buying one. I did end up with a rescue
a few years ago who was a Warmblood ? Had never heard of that.. he was a sweetheart though , I nursed him back to health just to have him get a tumor so I never did get to ride him. He had a good last year of his life though!

Here's one local to me that is a grandson of Lion King... much more affordable!!!!!
