You know, we have come a long way. DH was so not in to this chicken thing when I first started. I cannot say he is "in to it" now, but he is so much more supportive...and yeah, I guess a bit enabling. ;-) He doesn't say a word regardless of what (or how many) I bring home, he went with me to get my incubator, he gets my feed out of the vehicle when I get home, he fed my animals when the kids and I went on vacation.

*whisper* I even saw him pet a chick the other day when tot was showing him the new chick that we brought home. It was at her request, but he did pet one!

I have a kiddie pool in the basement that I use for a brooder. It's right outside the door of his game/t.v room. I was talking to him last night (me at the top of the stairs, he in the basement) and he just stood there watching them and talking to me about how funny they are, they were giving him odd looks, etc. I commented that one of the lights was off in the brooder and he stepped IN the pool to fix it for them.

We've come a long way and I love it. I cannot say that he has always suffered my addiction silently, but I think once he realized how happy it makes me, he realized it's not a bad addiction at all. It could be so much worse.

Good luck

GardeNerd it is so funny you mentioned the wii in your house but now you have chickens..lol. See yes we are partners with our hubbies and I dont want to argue..so he says yes to my chickens and I let him get a wii also and he wanted to start racing RC race cars..so I let him. If he is willing to put the time in to fix the shed into a nice coop for a bunch of stuff he doesnt want, then I'll let him go with friends and play with his cars. The wii was just good all around cause we play as a family now on that.

I am lucky that my husband really never says no to getting anything I want but I have come to realize that, that also means not saying no to things I think are stupid that he wants. He puts up with a little hyper dog, 7 cats (one of which is pregnant right now) and loud parrot that we have thought of many times of eating for dinner..lol and now going to be 8 chickens added to that. He's such a great husband!

I just do what I want. He won't go in the coop, anyway.
IT IS EASIER TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS, THAN PERMISSION. (Like the time, I bought 6 silkies & he didn't know for 2 months...)

DH gets really serious & shakes his head & asks me "What were you thinking?!? Really, what?" Then he tells me I am ridiculous and goes outside to shovel the dog's poo. Then he drops it until it is convenient to make a point. Like, if I say I am basically an honest person, he will say "SILKIES!"

I am "basically" honest, not totally honest!

lol, just laughing my butt of about this post . . . had to read the whole thing.
We are spread across the states but oh so all alike.
Someone single should snatch up that guy who said he was . . . a chicken loving husband - come on does it get better than that??? My husband is great, built the coop, listens to breed discusions tells everyone how proud he is of what I've got, never questions or complains about the increasing numbers; but then again . . . he has 156 cars!!! Of which I support completely, if it makes him happy how wonderful!

I told DH I was building an incubator. He said ok. I told him I was going to do a test hatch of 24 of our mutt eggs. He said ok.

Our eggs are due to hatch either today or tomorrow (power outage may make them a bit late). The feed store gets chicks tomorrow, I told him I was going to buy a few more chicks to add to the brooder. He just stares at me. After a few seconds, a big gulp, then "Just how many is a FEW???" LOL..... He knows me so well!

I think everyone here can relate to this just about.I do this with stray cats and with chickens.I snuck two chickens in when my husband was at work after he already said no.Sometimes you just got to do it! We went from 2 to 6 to 20 to 50 then 100.Haha! There's so many different kinds I want two of each!! Now I'm settled at no more then 50 layers.Lots of eggs!!! Yum!
Now it's on to ducks! Heehee! He said no to those to but he knows me and my animals and just shakes his head when I talk about them to others and how we have two named Donald and Daisey. My 3 yr old daughter named them.Donald is her Favorite! I'm thinking goats are next
