For those who's spouses don't play along....

Same here. DH grew up on a farm and his Mom had 1000 hens back in the 50s. I'm a citygirl transformed. Now we have a cattle ranch and DH built me a hen house in the corner of the old barn when we bought the place 10 years ago. With fresh eggs from a neighbor, we incubated eggs to start our flock.
Now the old girls are getting up there in years and after a failure in the incubator this spring (only 2 of 24 hatched) hubby took me to Atwoods to pick out some chicks. ...43 total....a few more than he expected but
he's a GEM.
We're both retired from our day jobs now. I take care of my birds, help with the cattle records. He helps with the garden and has his tractors.
He is proud of my quilts, soaps, and home canned goodies. I'm proud of his work ethic, generosity and leadership.
Ours is a partnership made in heaven.
Sorry girls, the mold was broken after God made him.

Will, I may be in major trouble here. I talked him into letting me buy 24 turkey eggs. Will, I sent the money but it all fall a part so I canceled it. Then I got some from another lady. But I had a Walmart visa card with some money on it so I use that to pay for the eggs then order some more from another lady and then I found some chicken eggs worth the money. So, I called a friend and talked him into hatching them for me. And dear hubby doesn't know I got three boxes coming not one. Oh Am I in trouble.
Iam hooked for sure

He (and you) sound awesome. What a life, you're living my fantasy. If I could find one like him, I could quit this single life. Wouldn't my mom like that. Oh well. Just me and my kids and critters. I do love my life. I want a farm, tho!

NanaKat,

Sounds like you came from a pretty good mold as well! I think you are who I want to be when I grow up.

In all seriousness, my DH is getting more and more into "country living". If there were any way he could retire and become a farmer, I think he would. He is really enjoying so much of what we've started doing on our 4+ acres. I think he really likes the chickens. And I think he would really like some Nigerian dwarf goats, too....if he'd just give them a chance!

Now, I just need to learn all those things you were talking about...canning, soap making, quilting.....

My husband knows that my chickens are my "PROZAC" so he tolerates them, I just got 21 chicks 2 weeks ago that are in my basement, with 25 more coming that are just going to be a surprise, still trying to figure out how I am going to explain to him how they just showed up:D He is a carpenter, so I have to use his talents or adding on to my coop, so any suggestions on how to explain the extra 25 chicks, I thought that I could tell him that the STORK just brought them:/

Lucky me!

I do not have to ask for forgiveness or get permission from anyone. I do as I please and spend as much money as I want.

No one tells me what to do, and I do not have to lie to anyone.

Jason never really knows what he's gonna come home to...

It seems every time he has to leave for 'something military' he comes home to another animal, or 2 or 3 or who the heck am I kidding, he usually comes home to at least 5 or 6 new/different animals....

When he was gone back in August he came home to about 5 different rabbits and a goat, in December he came home to Puppies ( our dog had them...it's probably the one time I didn't buy something)...Before he's come home to 2 horses. Another time it was about 10 sheep...The list goes on and on...
In the beginning he wasn't the 'happiest person'...But as time went on he has just come to realize that when he gets home he's gonna have to help me build different pens/runs/cages/pastures...

Now that he's deployed again and not gonna be home for 14-16 months I think he's a little nervous on the very few occassions I do get to talk to him...for fear of hearing what the newest animal is to be brought here...

Really he's very good with the animals..he doesn't always like when there's that 1 or 2 or 3 that need to be in the house for awhile, but other than that he's wonderful about the new animals...

Although I do have to admit that I have hidden animals from him before too...Not so much as have them in a hidden spot, but after a while I think he just stops count them and doesn't notice if a new sheep or goat or rabbit or chicken comes home...

He's lucky that you spend your time enjoying your animals instead of out cheating on him! He could come home to see another man at your house! Bring that up and I'm sure he'll appreciate the animals more.
