For those who's spouses don't play along....

Please thank your husband for me and my family. We are very proud of him and all the others who are serving our country.

He's lucky that you spend your time enjoying your animals instead of out cheating on him! He could come home to see another man at your house! Bring that up and I'm sure he'll appreciate the animals more.

TRUE TRUE...it's really sad how many do come home to that...

I love going to animal sales/swaps and actually have gotten Jason into going to "A FEW"....He likes going and usually when he comes with it's an enjoyable time...Although I have noticed that I don't seem to get as much/many animals if he's with...I wonder why that is...I might just have to ban him for a while...Oh wait, he's deployed so I will be safe...lol Now though with him deployed that means I have to build the pens/cages/patures/runs myself...Oh well I can do it....And then when he gets home I will double buy so that he has more cages to build and I can have a break from the building part....

I have actually been pretty lucky....I originally asked my DH about a 2 years ago and he said NO!!! So, I said ok. well in June we bought a new house with twice the land so I asked again and he said I guess....so I did tons of research (Thank you BYC) and ordered 25 chicks online I thought 25 was too many but what the heck....we got those and my DH was online looking at bantams and said we need those so he ordered 15 and we got 7 packing peanuts....he went to the feed store last Saturday came home and drug me to the feed store and we bought 5 chicks....later that day he went back to the feed store and bought 4 ducks...he also wants goats we just dont have the proper housing for a goat

I'm 40 and my husbands 50. Our kids are almost all grown and gone. I said awhile back that I was going to need to go find a baby somewhere unless I got some baby animals to fill the maternal hole in my heart. LOL! Maybe that's why he has been so enthusiastic about my chickies!

Check out the hobbies sections. I've fallen in love with the soap and the quilting threads.

Yes, the farm life is wonderful and being retired means more time to spend doing things together.

Though I don't think I will be bringing home a menagerie of animals.... Some surprises are better left for those younger than us.
No sense in pushing the DH too far.

I've been reading this, laughing, and sharing it with my husband who is an enabler! He'll originally say "let's talk about it", we do. He'll say, "don't we have enough?" (3 dogs, 1 cat, 26 parrots, oh yea, and a rooster that was dumped here) LOL

He never says "no". He always says that we'll discuss it, and we do. Of course sometimes I have to make him believe that the original thought was HIS idea.

When I talked about getting chickens a year ago when we lived in NY, he said, "lets wait until we get to TN so we don't have to move THEM too!" I agreed.

The chickens came sooner rather than later all due to some wonderful person who dumped Ricky the Rooster on our property. "Well hun, he HAS to have some lady friends! He'll be lonely!" So he agreed that it was a good idea to get some chickens. For Ricky's sake!

I started yesterday with 6 chicks....its started!

So I'm bumming around with my mom in another town just south of mine. I see an ace hardware and ask my mom, "hey can we stop in and see if they have different chicks for sale?" of course she is totally ok with my chicken habit I've just formed. So i walk in and talk to the guy after loving on the baby straight run chicks of course. Turns out they use the same hatchery BUT you could place orders for Silverlaced Wyandottes and the other store you couldnt. Long story short I ordered two of those also along with my 8 from before and he will order them while I'm gone this week so when I get back I will have chicks. They arrive on March 31st bright and early in the morning! I"m so excited! I hope my hubby doesnt care.
Well I"m off to a week long mission trip to TX to help clean up and rebuild houses..catch you later next week. I"ll post pics when I get some taken..Im might need some help with that though.

We agreed on A chicken, hahahha, they have to have buddies tho so that = 3, MY secret number was 5 (for varieties) I did the chicken strut for days until till he threatened to quit the whole idea, guess it looks kinda stupid bok bok... i was getting unsexed chicks so i told him 50/50 chance of roos and i didnt want to start over with a new batch of chicks, longer story short - I have 8 now. and one definately a rooster so far.

he's not too keen on holding them, but he has enjoyed them and has been wonderful.

but he doesnt know about my desire to sell the house and move to more land. hahahahha for more chickens.
