Whomever gets our census forms must be so backlogged and the information does not come quickly if and when the processors get our forms, they should put out information to the census takers. Maybe it is a double checking to make sure EVERYONE is on the rouster. I do know that the cities are very dependent on census, they can get an update for their signs as you come in the town.

I will relay the information to hubby...cynical at best he is LOL! After all, his grandmother was a census taker and done it for three census in her town. I can tell she loved her job, she would lovingly put every details in such neatness in her writings in the 40-60's census records of everyone in the town and farmers in that area. Great penmanship she had!

Identifying the Census Taker

* All census takers carry official government badges marked with just their name
* You may also ask them for a picture ID from another source to confirm their identity
* Some census workers might carry a "U.S. Census Bureau" bag

If you still are not certain about their identity, please call the Regional Census Center to confirm they're employed by the Census Bureau.

Most importantly, the Census Bureau will NEVER, under any circumstances, ask to enter your home.

I suspect, in the OP's case, the local busybody has taken the opportunity to pry where she isn't supposed to. I'd suggest reporting her to the census precinct office.

Also, dunno if there is a longer form, but the questions asked seem very mild and generic, in fact LESS intrusive than some of the past census info I can pull up on ancestry.com

I guess I didn't mind answering the questions on the census. Seemed it wasn't too intrusive to me either. How many people, what races, and did we own the home. Not anything the government couldn't look up all on their own. I could google more info than that about myself.

I was tempted to mess with the racial information though.

ETA: I would be worried about some stranger trying to get into my house.

^ Friend of ours had an issue there... she's black (and a quarter NA), hubby is a mutt like me (white)... she wasn't allowed to check NA for herself, only black... annoying, but at least fraction wise it made sense.

Their kids however... well they tried to bully her into checking only one box... in other words, pick a parent. I just don't think that's right at all. Wonder just how skewed these results will be because of that sort of thing?

I know I felt like putting that my husband and I were white but that our biological kids were black. Let them ponder that for awhile. I guess I didn't see where it mattered what race we were. I think income levels would be of more importance so that more money could be sent to areas that are dirt poor vs. affluent areas.

Mom knew hers went through, did it real early, but two guys in polos and khakis kept coming saying they needed to come in and fill out the paperwork. Mom said NO NEVER. They came 3 more times. She finally said We have 4 people here, uncounted pets and 2 .22 rifles and a 12 gauge. Care to see them? and proceeded to slam the door right in their face. That was 2 weeks ago, no return.

on the race issue the training states we are to put whatever the person says they are--if you say you are vulcan i have to put vulcan, no census worker can make you put a certain answer--another reason to report unusual behavior by census takers. I am trying to remember the 1990 census--was it that one that wanted income an such?? will have to research that one. I really can't help but to think if the economy was better and we had anyone other than the current president this census would not be creating so much hate and discord.

Ok folks don't bite my head off but.... I'm a census taker

I had to do some thing to pay for feed, It is my second job.
Many times the employees have received improper training, the manual contradicts itself several times.
1. we are NEVER to enter a house
2. we are allowed 3 personal visits to a residence them it must be phone contact a total of 6 contact attempts are allowed
3. the census is the number of people in the house on APRIL 1, If you sent it in early the system rejected it.
4. much of the system is automated
5. the only information YOU are obligated to give is the number of residents
6. question number 6 reads " please choose ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING RACES "
7. every respondent means $1500 for your county
8. these people at your door are your neighbors doing a temporary job
9. by not responding you are wasting the tax payers money $10-$20 an hour and $0.50 a mile

this is not that many people I have done construction work since 1982 a lot of folks that are employed as laborers will have 15-25 folks living in one domicile a trick I learned that they use to evade the census is just to move 3-4 times (on Paper) when the census starts they move to friends houses (on paper ) they just do change of addresses at the PO The census forms seem to get lost in the mail it kina makes it harder on ICE too.
