I wanted to know if its possible to just stick my silkie in a box with the egg. Will she sit on it and hatch it or will she not be in the mood?

It just wont mean anything to her, without the hormonal changes she wont know what to do.

She might break the egg and learn to eat it if she thinks it is in her way.

Depends upon the box situation, but yes, confinement to a box would probably be uncomfortable. You cannot make a bird go broody, it has to be their idea, caused by hormonal changes.

do you know how I can preserve the egg until my new incubator arrives?

Keep it at about 40 to 50 degrees. It will start to lose viability after a week or so.

It is good for a week as long as it is stored in a room around 50-55 degrees without direct sunlight. Turn the eggs 2-3 times a day.

You can save eggs up to 7 days buy removing them from the nest and placing them in a dark cool palce about 55 degrees or so. I look to put them down in a oatmeal carton for safe keepings.
