We got our first egg from our Ameraucana chickens today. Keep in mind this our very first "home made" egg ever so this may be totally normal. Shape thickness and color all looked good but when I put it in the skillet I noticed a very small worm like speck suspended in the egg. I though maybe I just failed to properly clean the egg and it came off the shell but when I tried to pick it out I noticed it was actually suspended inside the fluid and I had to cut it out. There is no way it was from outside the egg. I went ahead and picked it out and ate the egg. I noticed the egg cooked differently and was much spongier in texture. The taste was also a little different than the store bought egg that was side by side in the skillet. Any idea what it is, is it safe to eat, and should I be doing anything for my birds like deworming? We decided to go natural and our flock is unvaccinated and so far unmedicicated.
