Forget the chickens, How do I keep my family from cooking in the heat?

I had a great system for my place until the new owners changed it.

The east window was shaded with a lattice in a big planter with bouginvilla plants. It was really cute. I had a small one room AC unit hidden in the front window for the monsoon season.

The west side was shaded with a big, professional canapy with mosquito netting all around. This made a wonderful back patio, it was very livable and nice to exercize in or to just sit in. This is the amount of outdoors that I like.

The south side is abutted to another unit, and the north side has no windows but a blank wall to the parking area.

The swamp cooler is a roof unit and the way the place is set up the bathroom and bedroom funnel air into the front room then out back through the kitchen.

The mosquito netting helped to hold in the coolness and the back was at least 10 degrees cooler then without the canapy and netting. Last year the potted garden flourished and the cockatiels were quite happy.

The living area was even chilly at times and the look of the light through the lattice and green vines was stunning.

Since then, the new owners deemed that the AC was contraband. The front lattice was not the look they approved of, and the canapy out back was just too much for them.

I figure that when the monsoons hit, I will just move into their air conditioned office!

Oh, well. I will be relieved when I can move into a friendlier environment for humans, chickens, cockatiels, and gardens.
