Forgive my typos

Ever heard the saying, "they been dropped on their head too many times"? I wasn't born with dyslexia but had a really bad accident when I was in the 1st grade doing what kids do. Sliding on the ice on the school ground. I ran out of ice!! Landed head first on to the blacktop. I was in a coma four 5 days. My folks were just happy that I came out of it without any "permanent" damage.

Little did we know that there was some that wouldn't be diagnosed for another 8 years. I actually think I got off pretty good. I was in 1st grade, already knew my letters and numbers and how things were suppose to be. I just had to work much harder than those around me.

You should have seen me trying to take a sign language class in college!!!

The instructor would move her hands one way and my brain saw them going in the other direction. I squeeked out a C in that one!!!

I am here for two reasons. One is the excellent advice, the next are the funny posts. I enjoy everyone's posts and do not try to proofread them or judge by a person's grammar and spelling. Don't worry about it I look forward to reading your posts as I am sure many others do.

The biggest problem I had was that all the other kids could keep up with the teachers and I couldn't. I barely made it through school. In fact I failed my senior year and dropped out instead of repeating. I went to community college to get my "adult high school diploma" it's a step above GED. I was in the class studying 4 subjects and I graduated in one semester. I think the reason I did better was that we had no teacher, just a supervisor. We all were working on different subjects and we sat their studying at our own pace. That's the only way I can learn. You can tell me something til you're blue in the face but until I sit down and try to learn it myself I won't get it. I have to have a book and read it at my own pace to understand it.

Take it from another head trauma victim. I feel your pain. SouthernChick I tend to just pass over peoples typos, I don't think any of us are professional spellers (Screw you English Majors

). I knew it wasn't the shine or your drinking. Thou the flasklight comment was funny (I saw it also hehe), Wolfpacker called you out on it

rightly so.

Many people on this forum have larger issues to deal with then being dyslexic (Not that I am downplaying it.) I know several people that would trade bad health or other problems for that. Hopefully someday with genetic research we can change that, so no one else suffers.

FYI I was never diagnosed and was called stupid alot (Still am in fact). It takes alot of courage to tell people on an open forum about your disabilities. (Two thumbs and One toe up!) Oh and why is North Carolina considered the South? Hrm that always seemed kinda weird to me.

My disabilities would take pages to explain if they are explainable at all....

Keep right on postin'. I have yet to see anything wrong with anything you have shown us. And I agree with the other, The one that invented spell check should be made Presiednt. Hang out and Hang on, you may not ever beat it but you'll figure out how to work it.

I've never been asked that before. Well, North Carolina is not in the north. Virginia is the south and we're south of Virginia. We're below the Mason Dixon Line which divides the northern from the southern states.

Edited for a typo.

I work with kids who have teachers that don't understand. I'm not saying all teachers are like that because they are not. We have some wonderful caring teachers but there are a few who just don't understand.

My own daughter has a processing disorder and it's not considered a "disability" in Arkansas so there is nothing the school can do about it. We just work really hard at night.

You are such a sweet loving person. If dyslexia is the worst of your problems sweetie you are truly a blessed person. I loved your "action pictures" when I first joined this group and enjoyed your post so much I always tried to read them all.

I was made fun of a lot at school buy kids because I was the only redhead and freckled face kid in school but you know? I look at the ones that gave me so much grief and I have a much better life than them.
