Forgot to unplug incubator when candling

Welcome to BYC.

What has worked for me so far -- admitting that my experience is still limited -- has been to open the incubator, transfer the eggs to a clean carton, reclose the incubator to help it retain as much heat and humidity as possible, candle the eggs, then put them all back.

My reasoning is that I can keep the eggs warm in the carton and keep the incubator warm. The downside is a slight risk of dropping an egg moving them back and forth an extra time.

I've accidentally left the lid off while candleing for over 2 hours (kids have emergencies!) and still had over a 50% hatch rate. I'm sure yours will be just fine!

That's a good procedure... will keep it in mind, thanks 3KBs!

Like they said, relax. You did not hurt them.

What make and model is your incubator? Do you have a link so I could look it up? I'm curious to see if I can figure out why they might say to unplug it. Different incubators are made to operate different ways. My first thought is that it might have something to do with turning the eggs but without seeing it that is just a guess. You might not want a turner operating while you are handling the eggs. But it could be something else.

Thank you

37.5 degrees Celsius

But if you just had the incubator open, it will probably be low. Do not adjust the thermostat, just give it a while to bring itself back to the right temperature.
Alright 👍 I just panic sometimes and go blank. Thank you for Celsius temp.☺️

Mama Broody gets off the nest every so often to eat, drink, dust bathe, and deposit that massive, nasty broody poop where you are most likely to step in it, so they should be just fine! I don't unplug mine to candle. I know my limitations .., and I know it would be worse if I forgot to turn it back on!
Yes forgetting to plug in would be worse. Thanks for reply☺️
