It seemed like all of the kids agreed. It would take their minds off of the storm for a bit. They went around and told their names, ages, and hometowns. Everyone calmed down. "How about we play the sentence game?" James suggested. He began with, "I." Silla was next, with "am." Celeste took her turn with, "so." and then Jamie said "scared." "Not helping Jamie!" James scoffed. "Sorry, but i am." she replied.

Celeste woke up, feeling as though she had been drawn through a keyhole. "Good morning, Sadie," she sleepily whispered to her 7-year-old sister who slept next to her bed in a bassinet. Hearing no reply, she opened her eyes to see....a cornstalk?!?
Jamie woke up, opened her eyes, and uttered a scream. She sat upright, hoping beyond hope that this was all a dream
Isa sat up in her bed. She no longer heard the buzz of the housemaid working away with the vacuum. That had to be a problem. She always came into Isa's room and worked in there last. Isa knew there was a problem.
"Aaaghhh!" Celeste screamed. Then she heard someone say "What the--" and jumped up, because that voice sounded a lot like George. And Celeste wasn't going to let George catch her screaming. She looked around, taking in with all of her senses the new environment. "Where am I?" She wondered, looking at the rolling acres of corn and alfalfa around them. The sun was coming up. Then Celeste turned around, and saw people. A small group of confused looking people standing near a white house. There was her best friend Jamie, who was looking dazed, George, and others she had never seen before. There seemed to be about six in all. Celeste ran towards them, oblivious to the fact she was still wearing pajamas, and demanded to know where she was.
Isa's blue streaks gleamed in the moonlight. "Guys-this isn't right. The housekeeper is gone. In my house. Not dead or anything. Just-gone." She said and pulled her long blond hair out of her face with a clip. "Thank God I learned to cook, that's for sure!"
James felt something tickling his nose and opened his eyes to find himself in a haystack, the hay brushing up against his face. He rubbed his eyes and looked at the farmhouse the haystack was next to. He heard a shriek from inside and got up to investigate, brushing the hay from his blond hair. He found himself in a hallway where there was six other people standing there, confused.
Jamie turned to Celeste. "Celeste! Where are we? I, I, I was asleep in my bed one moment, and the next, I'm here in this house!" She said, motioning to the room.
Isa looked around. She found that she knew none of these people, and she honestly wanted to keep it that way. She squinted her green eyes so she could see. Why she didn't think to grab her contacts or glasses first, she'll never know. But she didn't, so she could only look for her house to the best of her abilities.
Jamie looked at Celeste and waited patiently for a reply…
Ashlynne turned to Celeste. "Who are you? I live here!"
James looked around at all of them. "I have now heard four people say they live here. Who actually does? Or do a bunch of strangers live in the same house without the others knowing?"
"I live up the hill. Where I will be taking my leave to go back to now, as the clock strikes midnight." Isa turned and left, her red velvet pajamas showing the only sign that she was human.
"Am I the only one utterly confused right now?" James asked.
Jamie walked around the room, wondering where she was. She looked up the stairs and in the other nearby rooms on the first level. She looked down at herself, in her pajama pants and her black fitted shirt. She looked in a mirror and saw her hair was a mess. She rolled her eyes and blew a strand of her almost blck hair out of her face. "Why do these things, always happen to me?" She asked herself. She searched in the bathrooms drawers and found a brush. After brushing her hair out, she cleaned herself up and walked out of the bathroom. Seeing the confused look on James face, she walked over to him. "Hiya, I'm Jamie, who are you?" She asked him, hoping she wasn't blushing.
"James," James said, "Nice to meet you Jamie."
A cold wind blew in the open window of the farmhouse. Ashlynne sat there, chin in hands. The breeze blew her chestnut hair across her face. Celeste shrugged in reply to her question. "I don't know where I came from."
Jamie smiled at him. "Its a pleasure to meet you James." Still grinning, her freckles spread across her cheeks and nose like pepper. "Well, I'm going to go see if there’s any food." She, with a bounce in her step, went looking for the kitchen. When she found it, it had a refrigerator full of food. "Wow. Its like, somebody used to live here." She scrounged around in it a little, before she found a carton of eggs and some bacon. She decided to cook breakfast for everybody and put some pans on the stove to heat up. She, while the eggs and bacon were still cooking, looked curiously around the kitchen. She found several things, but no phone. Instead, she found a battery-powered radio. She quickly checked if it worked (Which, it does) and tuned the radio, looking for some Beethoven.
Ashlynne trotted downstairs. Looked around. Wondered where her parents had gone. "What are you doing?" she asked. Jamie looked at her, surprised. "Just cooking breakfast," she answered innocently.
"I, is there, something wrong?" Jamie asked, putting down the spatula she was using for the eggs. "I don't mean to intrude, I was just, hungry." Jamie turned off the stove and put the eggs and bacon on a plate she had found. "Yeah, I live here." Ashlynne said, staring at Jamie. Jamie almost dropped the pan. "Oh my goodness, I'm, I'm sorry, I didn't realize." She quickly grabbed a few pieces of bacon and ran out of the kitchen.
The wind blew throughout the house, causing Ashlynne to shiver. The effect was ghostly. There were various rustlings from upstairs, but it was getting darker in the house. Ashlynne knelt and let the tears come. Where had everyone gone? Why were these children here, in her house? Jamie returned a moment later, chewing and brushing bacon grease on her jean Capri’s. "Sorry..." she whispered. "But who exactly are you? And where am I?"
Isa brushed her hair and changed into her blood red dress. No one would mess this up for her. She would simply not associate with these people until she had to. Until then, she would go down to eat, then go back up and listen to music on her CD player which never left her. Nothing could stop her. Just going through life like normal. Isa could find her true meaning in this life. For the first time. She could be happy. But she knew. Life like it used to be would be -and forever will be- forgotten.
Silla looked around the orchard. Sweet smells of apple and pear filled the air. "Where am I?" She whispered.
A mysterious chicken pranced into the farmhouse. Clearly, it was a rooster. It let out a long, shrill crow. It was a very pretty rooster and the only chicken seen in the entire farm. He flew up and stood on the kitchen table. He crowed again.
Isa came down from her room looking very groggy. "That stupid rooster..." she muttered to herself as she began to make an omelet. She went over to the fridge and opened the door to find a mass amount of eggs. She smiled to herself. Then she grabbed what she needed to make the omelet and quickly set to work.
As Isa sat with her back against the stove, she thought to herself how this world could be so cruel so as to leave her here, practically alone, with those who Isa felt were untouchable to associate with. She was raised up on standards where these people she was left with are made to be avoided like the plague. She couldn't stay like this, but she would. These heathens needed someone to help them realize true sophistication. And no one else was actually there to help them figure it out. She put her headphones in her ears and looked for the right song. When she found 'Fireflies' by Owl City, she stopped looking and leaned her head back, possibly even content with her life.
Jamie walked around, looking at the curious pictures on the walls, breathing in the fresh country air. She had changed into some borrowed jeans and a small, grey jacket. She was starting to enjoy the life here, sort of anyways. She had found a classical station on the radio and listened to it all morning. After breakfast, she decided to go for a walk outside. After a few minutes of looking behind haystacks, and running around in a barn, she finally went to rest on the front porch swing. It had a cushioned seat, and back-rest. She had just sat down when a white cat jumped up and laid down on her lap. "Hello Kitty," Jamie said softly. "What’s your name?" The cat shook it's head, making it's tags jingle slightly. Jamie looked down ot them, reading the cat's name. "Snowball, hmm, okay. Well, it's nice to meet you snowball." Snow-ball purred and put her head on Jamie's lap.
Isa slipped on her coat and went outside to look around. The clear air surprised her. She went and climbed up a tree to try and spot her house from her current location. It was just down the way. So she waltzed back inside and grabbed her stuff. She put it inside her bag and moved back into her house. She was perfectly happy now that she knew where the sophisticated area was located. No one and nothing to hurt her outlook on this life.
The mysterious rooster strutted around the farm, watching everyone's movements. He crowed a warning signal to the people but nobody heard him. The sky rumbled and the sun shone brightly behind the clouds. Everybody was still and looked in the sky.
Silla called out,"Coo-ee! Is there anybody there?" No one replied she didn't mind. Back at hone she had no friends. And anyway, she had read the hunger games trilogy, so at least she knew something. She did miss her horse, though. He was her best friend. Hex, a black Arabian stallion. Silla wandered around the orchard, wondering if she had died, or been abducted or something like that.
Celeste, flopped down. Sitting on the grass, she wondered to her self, "If only I could get back home".
Then the all of kids heard something. "What is it?" George demanded obnoxiously, making an obvious attempt at humor. No one laughed. "It's our cows," Ashlynne quietly told the group as she ate the last piece of bacon. "They must be milked or they will get mastitis and die. Come on, I'll show you how."No one said anything as Celeste , who had stood up to stand by Jamie at the first sound, James, Jamie, and George followed Ashlynne into the big red dairy barn. She showed them how to set up the milking machine. "See? Once I bring them cows in, we have to put this on them. Then, someone turns this switch-" "I'll do it." A new girl was standing in the door, crunching an apple. "Who are you?" Ashlynne was now thoroughly confused. Where had all these people come from, and why had her family disappeared over night? "Well-um-my name is Silla, and I don't-"Know where you come from." Ashlynne finished the sentence for her. "I thought as much. Everyone, we have to get these cows milked! Come on. Silla, sure, you turn this switch when I tell you to. Thank you," she remembered to add, being a polite girl.
After the group had completed the job, Celeste suddenly realized a very important fact: she was starving! "Um...Ashlynne, we're sort of hungry." she sheepishly said to Ashlynne, who sighed, and decided she had better make some food for all these strangers.
The sleek rooster walked into the farmhouse and let out a shrill crow yet again. This time the kids took notice and went to take cover in the storm cellar, not knowing what would happen next. Out the window, they spotted a huge tornado and they could hear lightening and thunder crackling in the sky. The rain pelted down and the wind howled. Who would make it out alive? The rooster found a safe spot in the barn to wait out the hurricane-like storm. Even though Celeste was starving, no one dared to leave the shelter.
Silla, walked up to Ashlynne. "Thanks, for letting me help out with the milking, it was real nice of you to do that.”
Immediately after seeing the on-coming storm, Silla felt has if her heart had reached her throat. Was this the end?!?
Ashlynne smiled but was too wary and scared to reply. She was huddled in the corner of the shelter with Celeste. Most of them started to cry when the tornado approached
"Oh, don't cry!" Celeste said impatiently. "It could have been worse! How about we go around in a circle and tell our names, ages and where we come from?" Ashlynne nodded her head quickly, not wanted everyone to sob in her parent's storm cellar. "Okay, I'm Celeste, I'm almost fourteen, and I am from Omaha, Nebraska."
"I'm Jamie, I am Celeste's BFF, and I'm almost fourteen too." Jamie said from across the cellar.
"Ok, lets continue with the get to know you game." Celeste suggested.
“O-okay…“ said Silla. "I'm Silla, I've just turned thirteen and I'm from Louisiana, I just can't remember where.” said Silla trembling.
