It's also possible to earn a GFM via one of the many contests held on the forum throughout the year.

Just a thought...if there's ever any consideration given to adding/changing titles, I'd love to see more generic titles (non-specific to chickens since I'm a duck person).

I think all birds are special, of course. Possibilities: Fine Feathered Friend, Birds on the Brain, Cooped Up, Beyond Egg-sited.

I think you have great suggestions there. Golden feather or platinum poultry membership would give you the opportunity to change your title to what you would like. We get this question a lot so I thought I'd post an FAQ about it.

Q) What is the phrase under my username:
A) This is a user "Title"

Q) How do I change / get a new title?
A) There are 3 ways to get a new title:

1) Automatically: The forum keeps track of the number of posts you have and will give you a title. Here are the "ranks"

You will move:
from 'New Egg' to 'Just Hatched': 25 posts
from 'Just Hatched' to 'Out of The Brooder: 50 posts
from 'Out of The Brooder' to 'Chillin' with my Peeps': 150 posts
from 'Chillin' with my Peeps' to 'Overrun with Chickens': 500 posts
from 'Overrun with Chickens' to 'Chicken Obsessed': 1000 posts
from 'Chicken Obsessed' to 'True BYC Addict': 2500 posts
from 'True BYC Addict' to 'Flock Master': 5000 posts

2) From BYC Staff: Once in a while our staff will bestow a title to a member based on something fun that they know about the member. This is done randomly and is not done upon request (members that don't like a title a moderator have given them in fun can request to have it changed back to the default... but we don't think this has ever happened).

3) Golden Feather Members - Yes, membership has its benefits.

One of the perks of being a GFM is the ability for members to request a custom title. We've had some members buy a GFM as a gift for their friends just so they can give that friend a new title of their choosing.

4) Platinum Poultry Members - One of the perks of being a PPM is the ability for members to create custom titles whenever they want!
