I think the attitude of this board is "you don't push your religion on me and I won't push my religion on you." But, if someone is going through something and asks for prayer or if it is offered, out of love and concern, to someone having problems, that's fine. But we don't push our beliefs on others, there are other forums for that. We are primarily a chicken board and that is where our interests lie. No one of any belief, or of no belief, should feel uncomfortable here. No one here, that I know of, looks down their noses or criticizes anyone who believes differently then they do.

I agree with you BeckyLa. I don't push my religion on anyone, I will offer prayer because I do have a true Godly love and concern for others, the Lord gave me a loving heart, christian or non-christian I love folks. I have seen plenty on here who are non-believers and I have never said a word and never will, each to their own. The Lord is in me, my home, and my church and I know it!

I think that everybody here answered Quizzle's question in the manner in which it was asked. Are we all wonderful or what? (Don't say "what"!)

I find it a little annoying, when someone adds a bible quote on a topic like self sufficiency, or making your own chicken feed; but I generally ignore it. I decided not to post on the "about me" thread simply because I got tired of reading the "thanks for your testimony" comments. Mostly I find the religious comments boring, they don't interest me so I try to skip them.

I understand for many people their religion is a driving force in their life. For me its not. I just drop the threads that become too religious for me.

As for being offended about prayer. Well, I am occasionally, but only because of the subtext. Such as an announcement in church asking that the congretation prayer for a member "to see God's wish to sell their property to the church in Haines", where the member was my mother and the offer was about 20% of the actual value. Or prayer offer that goes something like "we'll pray for you to see your way back to the Lord"

I also find that the religious comments come and go. A year ago there seemed to be very few on the board, and now there are a ton.

Once a long time ago I got....well, offended...but even offended is too strong of a word. It was the title of a thread that said something like "Please pray for me, but only if you BELIEVE"
I was like, what? my form of prayer isn't good enough for ya? After a few minutes I got over it and now just avoid those type of threads.
I still think BYC is the best forum on the internet. If someone on here asks about my beliefs I tell em (in private), without being pushy. Otherwise I just live and let live.

I agree, some times you can feel a bit excluded. Like if a thread reads "don't bother reading if you're not a christian" which I think I saw on a sister site, not necessarily here on BYC. As for the prayer requests they don't bother me. As was said here, people do have freedom OF religion. But it was also stated here that there is no freedom FROM religion and that's just not true. Amendment I "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion." Is a precident for many cases involving the recognized freedom from religion.

For some reason the religious posts are standing out to me lately too. I've been on here for over a year now and never had such a strong sense of it before. I am NOT a religious person and sometimes I do feel a bit excluded here because of it. A few days ago I had decided I would not come back to this forum, but then I thought what will that prove. I need to be more accepting of everyone not just those who are like me. I have learned so much from everyone. I decided to focus on what we have in common... chickens!

LOL that was me:>) I posted that way as a warning to non Christians so that they didn''t end up on a thread they didn't want anything to do with. I thought I was being courteous to everyone by doing it that way...I was actually hoping that it would be non offensive that way:>)

Well, it was a bit off putting, like hey.....I'm not welcome?! But I'm not about to get angry with you or the SS forum for it. And you're right, I did just stay away from the thread, so in a way, it worked!
