Foster Parenting

Both of Mr. Saddi's parents married people who didn't want kids. His mom married her 5th husband when he was 12, his dad married an equally charming drunk the next year. He ended up "staying" at his neighbors for the next 7 years, an elderly couple with no kids of thier own. So he lived next door to his dad, who still technically had custody.

When he took his child psychology classes to become a teacher he came home "hey honey did you know I was neglected as a kid", it had honestly never occourred to him untill then.

classes..... well I can write a report after watching nanny911, supernanny, different books and movies related to foster care, online classes..... we have a huge list of what we can do.

I have stacks of child dev books around here, and I'm pretty sure I have an observation report (or 20) still on my flash drive, want me to email you a sample?

Do you have to take classes every year to be a foster home. I have to take 24 hours of classes a year, to continue my education in order to keep my license

Yeah, it's hard to keep track sometimes of how much you have vs. need

We just found out that our very first foster son we ever had commited suicide Sunday in jail. He was 20 years old and was never able to find peace in his life. I'm praying he has found it now...somehow, someway. What hurts me the most is remembering when we got him he was 16 years old and had never had the chance to be a kid(his family was useless and heartless..)...he had been in youth lock up's since he was 12 years old...We were the first people to give him a birthday party..we gave him a special christmas..(we tricked him and gave him coal..heehe..and then later in the day we brought out all his presents...you should have seen his face light up!

) He told us that we were the first real family he ever had. UGH! its hard..I just hope hes in peace now.

I work with high risk teens, alot of them from lock ups and with major criminal records..and you would be heartbroken to know how many of them never had the chance to just be a kid...something as simple as that means the world to them. even if they act all tough guy and street wise..they still want to be kids inside!

I hope that not only him, but you and your family finds peace after this.

Thanks Boyd. Its tough to think about the crummy childhood he had and then the bad choices (criminal) he made. The kid basically lived his whole life in lock ups and jail. A therapist once told us that he didnt know how to live in the real world because he was locked up so young. And i remember him (donald) saying that its easier for him to be locked up..he felt more secure...i dont understand it..but its a real thing that people get from being locked up for so many years. Sad, sad life to live for 20 years.
