All you folks must be lucky enough not to have squirrels that chew cords, get into insulation, steal from birds feeders, annoy the dogs, chew holes in cabins, get into the garbage, etc etc.

Around here, a squirrel that's around isn't for long.

We thought we lost him the other day, he got out of his outside cage and went missing for the whole day. I didn't want to release him around here because our one dog catches them and of course the cats, and was worried he wasn't old enough. Then we had the sky fall out and rain hard. Hubby has gotten attached ( had a pet wild outside squirrel they fed in college until their new GA roommate had decided to cook it, hubby was horrified and now has squirrel issues, LOL) Hubby moped all day, I went out late that day to feed up and out the corner of my eye see a ball of fluff going 90 to noth'n right at me. It was Rocky, he made it to the house under the grill to keep dry, as soon as he saw me he hauled butt and ran up my arm, silly squirrel....... So he is home for now.

Awesome pic of the mama cat nursing it.I have never personaly raised a baby one but have known a couple of people that have. They will tend to go back to their natural environment usualy but sometime's will stick close to where they were raised.Just like groundhog's.You can feed a baby groundhog all spring and summer but they have a natural need to burrow for winter.Im sure he will do just fine in the wild if you plan on letting him loose near your house if you put some corn etc. out for him.He will most likely adapt very well and you can still enjoy him too.I have domesticated ferrets and they still have their nat. instintics to burrow, packrat stuff and sleep a lot.

Actually, I had a squirrel problem in my roof as they'd chewed a hole and preceded to tap dance all night long. My father said "Oh, don't worry about it. I'll take care of it." I went away for a week and came home to destruction. He'd nailed a wooden board over their entryway and locked a squirrel IN. That poor squirrel starved to death while I was gone and that was one heck of a smelly mess to clean up.

And when one tried to eat my bird food, my old rooster took care of him. When one is stupid enough to try to eat from my wild bird feeders my dog takes care of him.

But, while I dislike squirrels as pests, I won't deny their cuteness. Small, fluffy, and not chewing my wiring, what's not to love?
