This stranger showed up in my yard last night. Must have been someone's pet because it sure is the sweetest bird I've ever seen. Follows us everywhere and tries to get up on our shoulder or into our laps. Lap chicken. LOL!
Anyways, one second I think it's a pullet then the next I start thinking "she" is actually a "he." Any ideas? Thanks.

I agree it's a cockerel. If it just showed up in your yard somebody probably did dump it when they saw you had chickens. That kind of thing annoys me to no end. It's like dumping kittens at a barn.

Still, if he's that sweet and you can have roosters, it sounds like you just got a really nice roo for your flock :)

It's kind of hard without knowing the age of the bird to be sure, but I'm also thinking cockerel. The size of the comb in relation to the size of the body is male, and I'm pretty sure that's a saddle feather hanging down there. I agree, probably a dump bird, sorry.

I don't have chickens just yet. Working on it though. I had a pretty sizable flock but divorce got in the way.

Got eggs in the incubator and the chicken coop is in progress. I figured he was dumped too. He is young, that much I can tell for sure. Every once in awhile, he'll slip out the baby chirp. I suppose the only thing left is to play the waiting game to find out for sure what gender "Lucky" is. Thanks everyone.

Oh man, that's hard to tell. I'm leaning towards cockerel but that comb and waddle combo isn't out of the question for a mature hen. But then again, if it's an Australorp, and a mature hen, you'd think it'd be a little fluffier. They are pretty fluffy when they're mature.
