Keep him and love him. He needs protein. Try scrambled eggs and pieces of chicken. Get some dried meal worms and some non-medicated chick feed. Most recommend 20% protein feed. Do NOT get medicated as it will kill him. Also, if you are keeping him, he needs a friend. If you cannot get another baby duck for him then get a mirror so he can look at himself. I used a real glass mirror and just made sure that there was NO WAY the duck could pull it down on him. Everyone on here recommend baby mirrors but I never found one that did not look slanted or like a circus mirror making someone really fat or skinny. I wanted my duck to look at a duck not something scary. Good Luck.
Thank you. I started to feel guilty about wanting to keep him. My dad wants to keep him really bad but I was just nervous that if I didn't know how he would die. Thank you for the advice, I got him little toy birds. I used to own 2 budgies so I will use their mirror.
All I have ever seen on here is keeping a wild duck is illegal maybe states are different but so many have said taking an animal whether a duck or other is illegalI am an attorney and is NOT illegal to take care of the duck.
I have to talk with the others I live with. I think they want to keep it but as of right now he gets loud when I'm not around.
What do you think would happen if we introduced him to a group of mallards that live in a lake near us once he got a bit bigger?
I agree.Unless you can get it directly into a nest that has babies of a similar age (highly unlikely!) they'd kill it.
