Found Baby Bantams in the Park

First, I suspect we've just seen the chicken "bug" bite a new member.

Second, I *just might* need to make a long drive to Arizona in a few weeks, in case these babies show up on the BYC auction site. I'd like to get away from the rain! And, well, you know.....

Birds in general are an addiction. I have several aviaries with all kinds of rescue birds in them. Here is the current count of the ever growing outdoor population; 30 parakeets, 2 lovebirds, 2 button quail, 7 cockatiels, 2 blue and gold macaws (boarding for a friend), 2 domestic ducks, and always more to come. The inside birds are 7 parrots; 5 senegals and two african greys. Rescue in general is an addiction! All these birds were considered "throw-aways" by their former owners. Sad, that people get a bird (or two) on an impulse only to give it up later because they didn't understand that they require care. They don't just sit in a cage, or a coop, without any human interaction. I'm glad to be a part of a rescue organization that has been around for over 20 years. Very rewarding and definitely addicting. But, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I guess I'll have to add these little guys to my outside population. Chicken bug here I come!

Those are some cute cute babies! Glad you rescued them, they would have NEVER survived. Bless your heart!!!

If you decided not to keep them and need someone to adopt them, keep my name. I drive that way often.

BUT i have a feeling, now that you stuck your foot in the BYC water... you'll never turn back!!!

Hey!
I'm in Vail, just a few miles outside of Tucson...... Maybe I can convince Mom and Dad to let me, er, help out some of those poor, defenseless chickies.

Welcome to the crazy coop! You'll love it in here. They look very happy already.

BTW- feel free to dump those babies in my brooder.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I think they are about a week old. And I think they are standards. I also think they look like sex links. (a cross breed but excellent layers) The buff colored ones would be red sex links and the 2 black would be black sex links. If they are sex links, then the black one with the dot on it's head is a male and the one without is a female.

When they feather out, it will be easier to tell breeds. So many different breed chicks look similar.

Roos? Hmmm, I never thought of that. Well, if they are, one is welcome to stay. The others will have to be adopted out. There are lots of Roos in the neighborhood here. I am one of those that actually enjoys their crowing.

Well, that's it for me for awhile. I need to go out and tend to some of the other creatures. I'll be back on later. Thanks again everyone. I think I'm going to like it here!
