Found baby chick

A lovely young boy. No need to get a new home for him right away, he won’t start crowing for a while. Right now he’s a little sweetheart.
He’ll need some chick food and electrolytes. I would recommend keeping him inside for now.

How did you determine he’s a boy?

Looks like a leghorn.... a lot more likely to be roaming the park than a WPR. but I would not say 100% boy at this stage!

Easier to identify breed once he's a bit older.

Maybe he was abandoned because his owner didn't want a rooster.

Or, maybe he was carried off by a predator and got loose -- thus the injury.

Sounds like he's in good hands now.

This is the injury he has, it’s like a whole into his neck/back that extends all the way down to the crop. It looks like he’s been healing though and I have realized he is someone’s rooster because he follows me around and is super tame. He’s also missing most of the tail, there’s barely anything. Poor thing

How are you determining it’s a cockerel? What are the give-sways?

One they comb is really red if it was as pullet it would have a pale comb
