Can you get your hands on some raw milk and cream?
Also feed them raw egg yolks.
All of these things do not require digestion, and will just be absorbed.
First of all thank you for trying to help the little guy/gal. I am a Vet Tech with 6 years experience in Emergency/Critical care. I would not attempt to feed him/her until his/her rectal temp is at least 98 degrees farenheit. Normal temp for a dog is 100-102.5 F. Puppies do run slightly cooler though, depending on his/her age. Also be careful not to warm him/her too fast. Good luck. Feel free to PM me with any questions. I should be on most of the day.
i know that the pureed chicken baby food is probably your best bet (thats what ive used !) nothing with chuncks for a while. some pup replacement milk soaked on a piece of bread will usualy intice them to eat if they refuse everything else .
sorry, I meant they were 3 or 4 months old. small breed. very short hair. We have a pittie, and she doesn't like other dogs, and never had her around puppies before, so they are being kept apart, for more than just health reasons. Thanks for the advisement of being sure to wash up between them. The puppies are very very scared of dogs it appears. Our Pittie did show up, and the black puppy that still has some strength, just started screaming ! Poor things.
The runt is still holding his own. I see that his eyes squint when in the sun, and he has started to do a little shivering. He keeps opening and closing his mouth. Pretty rythmically.
I will be back to check back again. We are trying to find someplace where we can put them, keep them warm. and safe, from all.
The baby food chicken is what the vet had me give a puppy that was recovering from Parvo. The little thing would only lick it off my fingers; wouldn't eat from a dish for quite a few days. When he got stronger they had me give him cooked hamburger with cooked white rice, and then we added cottage cheese. We didn't give him dog food for almost a month after he came home from the vet's.
There is an herbal remedy you can give them if they have stomach problems, like they get with parvo. You can find it at some pet stores, and also at the link below.
I have used the feline version of this and saved 5 out of 6 rescue kittens that had feline distemper. They told me it couldn't be done and that I shoud just have all the kittens put down. I tried and it worked.
I still have one of those kittens (what a sweetie)
You are a kind hearted soul and you will be blessed for taking care of God's creatures. Someone has to care for those who can't care for themselves.
PLEASE follow the advice given for keeping them seperate, and keeping yourself from carrying a disease to your other dog. Get coveralls, or a smock, and even watch the shoes you wear. Parvo especially can be insidious.
Keep up the good work, and let us know how it turns out.
If the little one opening and closing his mouth rythmically (sp?), it may be a big breed and still very young, young enough to nurse. Just a thought....
God bless you for rescuing them. What happened to the ones that got away? Have you seen them?
still working on the rough run for the 2. We currently have them in a petkennel, one of those big plastic ones with a gate on it. I fed them some regular dog chow, just a bit, until I can get to the store for more. They are resting in there. I peeked in on them a while ago, and they were defensive and growling. I just spoke softly to them, and then left. The popsycle puppy in now somewhat alert. He moved to a curled position, versus just being laid out. he is responding, but is weak. I gave him some water thru a syringe, like I did the warmish milk. He is drinking. I think the mouth thing is due to excessive thirst. I just gave him a couple of cc's for now. He is still wrapped up, and in the sun.
Thank you all so much for your help. I will be back in again to read better, and catch you all up.
