Rex thanks you. If you live or go where rattlers roam, get your dogs rattle snake vaccinations. He would have been dead in minutes without that.

If a snake is not poisonous and not just huge, how big of a threat is it to chickens. My son found a snake in the run today. Ten 6 week old barred rocks were checking it out and that got his attention. He killed it.

I'd say that the snake could still kill the chickens if he was hungry enough.

I have been under the impression that chickens would kill snakes (maybe not rattle snakes) or at least some breeds of chicken?

They will kill SMALL snakes but even then, they can be injured while dealing with it. Needless to say, in general, snakes are more of a danger to the chickens than the chickens are to the snakes.
