Lauren signaled to Starfire, and the hyper bay moved forward. The first jump of the course loomed in front of Lauren. They took the jump from the exact right spot and sailed over in a perfect arc. Lauren gave Starfire a pat, and hugged his neck. "Good job boy" she murmured.
Starfire and Lauren hadn't been together long, and Starfire already had proved to Lauren that he was a natural born jumper. The course went by fast, Starfire only balking at the highest jump.
Lauren dismounted and hugged the hyper bay's sweaty neck. She began to lead him around the rink. "Great job today, boy" she murmured. "Great job."

Lauren entered the barn, leading Starfire behind her. In the dimly lit barn, the stall's earthy wood shined. Lauren led Starfire into the deep bed of straw, and began to remove his tack and groom him. While running the dandy brush over his coat, Lauren felt the sudden urge to hug and thank Starfire. He was one of the best horses she had ever had the pleasure to know. Lauren was an experienced and talented rider, having grown up on a horse farm, but Starfire was teaching her a lot about jumping.

Lauren led Charm out of the barn. The leggy black mare's coat flashed in reflection to the sun in all the right places. Her neatly braided and pulled mane and tail made her appearance look nice and tidy. Lauren jammed her riding hat on over her blond braid, buckled the strap, and began to mount. Charm stood perfectly still as her rider stepped up onto the mounting block and did one of her usual snappy mounts. Lauren clucked to Charm and the headed towards the inside arena.

Lauren and Charm trotted and cantered circles and figure eights, halted on command, leg-yeilded down the long side of the ring, and lengthened and shortened stride at the trot. The black mare, Lauren's long-time partner, snorted in happiness when Lauren reached down to pat the mare.
