Fowl pox?

Without pictures, a couple of 'off the cuff' ideas come to mind. Pecking issues or other injuries to the comb (the black being scabs), or fowl pox (caught from mosquito bites).

The black skin is bumpy

That type of black on the comb is common with running into or rubbing on wire fencing. It will heal in time, and you might see some white skin while it heals. You also might try cleaning it off with a wet cloth to see if it is just dried blood.
