Fox Attack

I’m starting to worry more about his neck. It definitely is odd and while he can open his wings he only does so slowly and for very short periods. He’s certainly improving - he’s more active, he’s eating regularly and he’s grooming, but the angle of the neck is off when we watch him. If this is a neck injury, can he live with it? Or will he be in pain? We really want him to live out his life a happy duck, but we don’t want to hold onto him if he’ll suffer. Surely, if he’s managing this and eating well he should be fine even if he doesn’t get full range of use of his neck?

Hopefully, this will help to show what I mean...

I'd Give a little more time.
He may just still be a little sore and stiff. It kind of just looks to me like he's trying to eat without moving around too awful much.

Ducks, like chickens, are definitely made to be with others. I think with a couple new friends, he can be back to his old self soon.

Thank you. We’re probably just over worrying. We’ll see how he goes, especially when he can see his new girlfriends through the bars.

Just to update...

We have decided to have him put in for an X-Ray tomorrow, as we continue to be really worried for him and don’t want him to be in any serious pain. If it’s broken, then we will likely have him PTS, but if not then we will continue with rest and hopefully something to ease the pain and swelling that may be causing him to continue being so quiet and inactive. Keep your fingers crossed for our boy. 😢

Our vet gave us the same pain killer for out duck that was attacked by a fox as our dog gets. The duck got 1/4 tab, the dog got 2, rimadyl I believe it was. Was much more easily administered than the antibiotic. @Isaac 0 hadmentioned aspirin for ducks, worth looking into, perhaps he would weigh in again.. if it is safe and takes the edge off it seems worth while.

By the time we got home from work today, Norman had deteriorated quite significantly. He was struggling to walk and support his head. The vet agreed that he had little hope of any kind of real recovery, and that they believed he was close to death, so we helped him on his way. We are gutted, but at least he’s with his girls now. 💔

I am so very sorry.

Well dang. I'm sorry to hear that!
