if trapping is not an option or takes to long i would shoot and kill it. .22mag should work pretty good. (use it on coyotes or plan to with in 100 yards)
otherwise a good defense is the best offence. electric fence would help.
You might not have a problem for a couple months. Then all of a sudden they are back again. Even when a fox has been shot and killed around here, within a few months another fox moves into this territory.It has been gone for about 2 weeks I am still warey though!
You will probably loose more birds in the future. The fox knows where there are some chickens and if it can find a way in, it will. I see a fox on one of my games cameras most nights.
