FOX PROBLEM

Hi does anyone have any suggestions to keep away foxes? Im new on this so I'm still getting the hang on of it. We have chickens that are put away at night and ducks and geese that sleep on the dam.

Put up an electric fence, you won't regret it.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you've joined us! You really can't repel a fox, only take precautions against them. A hot wire around your run and hardware cloth are your best defenses.

Oh, those foxes are so....foxy! I have them and used electric wire. They learned to go over under it. So I asked the local fox hunting club to set traps. They were thrilled and I haven't had a fox problem for a while.

You can check our the predator threads for ideas on preventing their attacks. If you free range there is really nothing you can do to protect them. If you have them in a strong, outdoor run with wire skirt to prevent diggers, and a solid roof to prevent climbers and air attacks (raptors). You also need strong wire for fence panels, like 1/2" hardware cloth tightly affixed to frame (not with plastic ties).

If you have motion detectors with lights and or alarm, that could send them away. There is also a product - not sure of the name- maybe' night eyes' with glowing red light that critters think is another predator.
