Fox removal

And I will point out again, I'm only saying that SSS shouldn't be the first step here. There are ways to get around this without causing harm to a protected species.
If those preventative fail, then yes, of course OP should protect their flock

I never said everything did. You're the one comparing a fox to a coyote. The problem isn't calves, which can't be protected in the same way. The problem is chickens. The problem is a protected species

Everything doesn't fit in the same vault, so why are you comparing two totally different issues?
Get over yourself. Foxes are a nuisance here. They can be very aggressive and don’t just move on when the meal takes a little effort. If anyone chooses to free range and protect their flock from predators the old fashioned way, then that’s their choice, just like the rancher.

Obviously its not the first step, but an effective last one. I've been in this position and "just keep them locked up and safe" doesn't always work when you're sly as a fox.
Then why are so many people commenting
"SSS"
"S x3"

It isn't a first step, good we acknowledge that. So how about we talk about other solutions as well?
I have foxes around here, SO many of them. They leave faeces near my coop. I am yet to lose an animal to them, its not that hard to outsmart them

The issue in this case is that OP cannot afford to expand their run, right now. Which is understandable. But there are still a couple things they could try first in the meantime. A protected species. Is protected for a reason. That's all I'm saying.

"Get over yourself"
I'm giving my opinion and my experience which has been completely polite, thoroughly explained and respectful.
So now I'll be the adult in the situation and agree to disagree.

You’ve had a comeback for everyone that has responded that don’t go along with your way of thinking. Very adult.

I've had further questions and points to add to the "discussion". Yes.
And sometimes I do let my beliefs get the better of me, and I've apologised for that in the past- but I don't think this is one of those times. I've been respectful so I don't get your problem.

So again, agree to disagree?

I think you all have made very good points and I appreciate it I think saveira is right that it dose eat other animals that will cause problems
The last time I had a chicken with a hurt leg I kept her in a dog kennel inside until it healed. It was just injured and she needed to rest it for a bit. When you feel the leg does it feel broken in any places? She would probably make a sound of pain when you touch it, too.

Let us know if it seems worse than just a regular sprain/injury, there are folks that know about that on here.
We think it’s a sprain or she pulled something (we had a hen go through something similar before). One of my hens is recovering from nerve damage so I have them in there and I am planning to re introduce them to the flock this weekend.

I hope your hens recover okay
