Ok, this is about a guinea hen, I know she's not a chicken but I am hoping someone has some experience. My neighbors son threw a rock at my guinea hen today because he felt she was annoying (noisy). She was in MY yard, she has only ever left my yard once. She's a sweet girl but is lonely and talks alot. Anyway, he hit her, knocked her out cold. Luckily I was in the yard at the time and she came around pretty quick. I loaded her into a cat carrier and kept her in the hen house till she seemed to be doing better. When she started talking again I let her out, she ventured into the chicken yard and flew over the fence. I haven't seen her since. Does anyone know if this could have scared her off for good? Besides odd behavior is there anythings I need to keep a particular eye on? Poor thing so didn't deserve that, I was SOOOOO ticked off!

I don't blame you for being mad. I had a similar experience, except that I actually had 2 of my guineas killed by a visiting friends dog. They were foraging around as usual in their usual places when they were assualted and some killed. After this i had to baby them for a while to get them to come back "home" to roost and peck around. Give her some time, and I'm sure she'll settle down. Have you questioned your neighbors about seeing her? I certainly hope you have a positive outcome. It's hard to understand non-chicken-lovers!

Not sure about the guinea hen, but I'd sure keep an eye on the neighbor's kid! That kind of cruelty can eventually escalate.

I would guess that she will be back, she's just scared, doesn't feel well and has gone to hide. I hope she comes back!

I would talk to the kids parents and tell them what happened and ask them to talk to their son. If my son did that he would have nothing but a mattress to sleep on for a while! Of course my son would never do that...they are all big animal lovers. We had a neighbor boy who was just a pain in my rump BIG TIME. I was constantly watching out my window afraid he was going to hurt my dogs. HE is the reason we moved out of our house. He would buy hamsters just to watch them drown! AND he said one day he was going to go on a killing rampage and kill everyone on the block. UM We believed him! The kid is now 21 and always in trouble...were just waiting to hear something big happen.
Good luck finding your baby!

I hope she comes home.

That's horrible...I just don't get some people. My sis in law married a guy that, when he takes the kids to the lake, he tells the kids to throw rocks at the ducks. He's abusive to their dog too. My sis in law said she won't have any more pets when the ones she has are gone. He won't come to my house. He knows what would happen if he dared to mistreat any of my pets. It's hard to understand some kids until you meet the parents. Hope your hen is okay and will return home.

I would definitely talk to the parents of that child. Please don't let it go. Also, if I were you, I would construct a covered run (if you don't already have one) and guinea house and keep it padlocked. If you have other animals, you should probably lock them up when you are not around (or in the afternoons when that kid is home from school). When a kid acts like that, you never can be sure what else he might do. I hope your gunea is okay. If she comes back, I would keep her in a box in the garage for a day or two, in case she has some lingering problems from being hit by that rock. Head injuries are always serious. Good luck, and keep us posted on the situation.

Talk to the snotrag's parental units asap. I do not give a darn how much she annoyed the little toerag, she was on her home property and he has NO right harming her in any way. Animal cruelty starts small and gets out of hand...put a stop to it now.

Hopefully your girl is just scared and hiding...keep us posted but do not wait to go to speak with those parents....threaten them with calling the police and pressing animal cruelty charges....follow through with it if necessary because the little snotrag needs to be stopped now.

I can tell you that if it were my child, I would kick his butt to within an inch of permanently stunting his growth but he would think twice and thrice before doing something like that again. Harming an innocent animal is a HUGE no no in my world and someone will get a butt kicking because of it.

How old is this the little 'pre-serial killer'?

Over 12 and I would be calling law enforcement if only to file a complaint.

Animal abuse is FINALLY starting to be recognized as a pre-cursor to family violence etc.
