freaking neighbor kids!

Uh... How old is this brat? I know some young kids act stupid and don't quite know the damage that can be done with certain actions (not that it's in any way excusable) but an older kid is probably a little bit... Not right in the head if they're going to intentionally hurt animals for no other reason than they're "annoying" (though I have guinneas, LOUD little suckers lol.) Either way, I'd go have a little chat with his parents, they need to know about that (if they even care.) In the meantime, keep all animals locked and get a game camera (hidden) so you can catch the little butthead on "film" if he does that or worse again.

To answer your question after my little rant, she's probably just in hiding; it's not hard to traumatize a guinea apparently, heck, I ran across the yard one time to herd the sheep away from the feed barn door which had blown open, I had my entire flock of guineas screaming and flying at my head for no reason, literally lol. I didn't see them for several days after that (apparently I scared them a little bit) but they all came back. Why running me would scare them, I don't know, but they're pretty wild little critters, she'll probably be back. As long as an owl doesn't get her, that's a huge problem most places.

The kid's 10 and the parents don't care. In a town this small there really isn't much a police force and what is there has no time for animal cruelty. I get ticked off but I just work harder to keep my animals away from the front of the house, the guinea is the only one who is not currently fenced in, I should but I feel terrible fencing her in. Their meant to range free and she really enjoys herself. About everything I can do at this point is make sure the kid doesn't step foot on my property, I have no trespassing signs all over and trespassing is something the police pay attention to. About Pete (my guinea) she was found this morning hanging out in my husband's shed with his four wheeler, seems to be doing fine, though she still is a little spooked.

If the local police won't listen, call the Shreiff's Dept. Be a squeaky wheel. Even if they won't do anything, demand that a report be filed. Then, if it happens again, you have a paper trail that shows a history.

I would definitely talk to the kid's parents. However, bringing up animal cruelty might make them angry and they'd then quit listening; maybe they don't care about animals and that's why he does it. Put it in terms of property rights and damage to property. That is something everyone can identify with, and may make them consider damage to their wallets (always an attention-getter!). My sympathy to you for your guinea's trauma and for your having lousy neighbors who can't train their children properly.

Glad you found the hen. Can you put a run up for it away from the rock thrower?

Make a huge pen with shrubs and a tree so the hen would be happier.Just a matter of time before the kid hits it again.Maybe even shoot it with BB's.

Signs won't stop anyone intent on doing you or your property harm.Video cams and a fence is your best option to slow down and gather proof.Maybe a visit from the cops and a lecture, but from what you write it would seem the police don't want to bother.Could try though.

Yelling at him is ok, but spanking could cause more trouble. Heck...teachers can't spank kids anymore so it could get rather messy if you did it. I'm not saying that he didn't need a good spanking but there are laws now and no telling what his parents might do. IMHO

Sorry for your hen. Kids can be stupid at that age. I would take her to a vet . Then give the kids parents bill for vet and gas. Parents take their kids behavior much more serious when it can cost them $$$$$. Good luck.
