Freaking out over chicken noise - Help!

That's wonderful Fluffhead!! I'm glad you don't need to get rid of your birds.

I wouldn't suggest getting the other animals(turkeys, geese, and goats) though. It's good you have the support of your neighbor's you do not want to push it with even louder animals.

I'm so happy the situation turned out in your favor! Suck up to your neighbors. Offer chicken manure for fertilizer and any extra eggs you have.

thank you! i absolutely promise not to get anymore animals. this is stressful enough.

I'm so glad it worked out. All too often there is an unreasoned opposition to chickens and shining a light on them does open a can of worms. I'm glad your neighbors are more enlightened.

So glad to hear that you e-mail gave such positive support to you and your babies!

As far as feeling bad for the postcard complainer.......I know people can mouth or send something off in anger, but maybe she will think twice about speaking in anger before she thinking!

Man I was so sucked in to this post, I read all six pages! I can't belive people, I think these grumps need to take a hike in the hills and learn to appreciate nature. I love the sound of roosters, chickens and other farm animals in the morning (it is better than hearing the bus going by my apartment window at six in the morning). And I grew up in the city! I am a country girl at heart, my mom and I would travel to Danville, Illinios every summer when I was little. I would give anything to have grown up on a farm. Anyway, speaking of noise, right now I have two 1 month old babies in my bathroom that we picked up yesterday and they have to stay in my apartment for the weekend because my mother is away and cannot transfer them to her house until Monday. In only one day they got comfortable enough to eat out of my hand. And for some reason when I tucked them in tonight they just started chirping soooo loudly (I had no idea they could make that much noise)! I think they were trying to call me back for more treats or mabye even think of me as their adopted mama already. I am still trying to learn how to understand and speak chicken

I started freaking out because I am sure they are not allowed here. So I started playing classical music to try to get them to calm down LOL and to drown out the noise. They are the cutest things, I can completely understand how people get addicted.
It's funny the things people complain about, I have a Toy Poodle who is a service dog and every single time I go into a grocery store someone comes up to me and tells me very rudely "dogs are not allowed in the store!" even though she has a big yellow sign that reads SERVICE DOG. And right up the isle there is a kid screaming at the top of its lungs or putting there shoes up on the counters. I always have to laugh because all I think is, "my dog is behaived ten times better than all these children". Don't get me wrong I love children, but they need to be disiplined as well.

I am sorry to say that I received another letter today that my Ameraucana is still squawking in the daytime and greatly bothering some neighbors.

I am now giving up. I must rehouse them. I posted this thread offering up my chickens: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=41186

If
you live in the Bay Area and would like two wonderful chickens, please contact me via e-mail.

Awww. That's too bad. I cannot believe people would object to an occassionally squawking chicken. Shame on them for being so uptight and close-minded and afraid of the world of nature. They probably all have barking dogs.

Yes... It is extremely disappointing. I am definitely disenchanted with my beloved city of Berkeley.

I did try, though... I tried very hard to make this work. I am sorry that it just did not work out.

Fluffhead, I'm sorry to hear about it. Maybe you could try several bantam hens? Something much smaller and not as much "noise projection". You could now have a whole flock of hens to make up for your 2 standard hens.

I am so sorry that you have to give up your hens.

I am expecting some "problems" with a few of our neighbors. Although my direct neighbors are all retired. We have a few dogs in the neighborhood that are allowed to bark ALL DAY and night. Left outside. Add the people with the motorcycles and the ones with the little souped up Honda's and the area is never "quiet" Plus we have softball and soccer fields with in ear shot as well. Gotta love the parents with the air horns:rolleyes:
If ANYONE dare say Boo to me about my chickens they will be getting an earful right back. I will set my stereo speakers up in the windows or on on my porch and crank it up:D
