Free Anti Virus Download Software suggestion

What do you mean when you say that you need the "lightest" anti-virus possible? How would that benefit a user?

Yes, that's what I mean. McAfee was so loaded down with components and codes, etc that it dragged my computer system. I have an older computer with a slow processor, so the more programs and components I have running the more sluggish it runs.

I have used "Avira" free antivirus for about 7 years. They also have a pay version now.

It used to be only for linux and called luke filewalker haha thats what made me get it

Its great though, theyve upgraded a lot from the days of "Luke Filewalker"

I have AVG on about 9 computers for about 5 years and have never had a problem with AVG or viruses. It updates daily and I have it set to scan 5 days a week.

I have used avg since it first came out years ago. I have never had a computer die from virus infection. If you update it like it needs to be you won't be sorry. I don't use the security suite version as I'm on dial up and it slows me way down.

With McAfee, one laptop took over 10 minutes to boot. Once booted, it would regularly hang for minutes at a time, with McAfee using 100% cpu. Same with several other AV programs. With Security Essentials, you hardly ever notice it's there. That's what I consider to be light.

Same with Norton, and for either of these programs, you have to download another program to successfully and completely uninstall them. What a pain in the foot!

Avast, AVG, Kapersky, or if you want to pay a little bit ZoneAlarm.
