We finally got a photo of a black swallowtail butterfly 🦋 They are rare here, so it was fun to see it fluttering around our front yard by our gardening stand. It loves

Today is a busy butterfly day, and one month crystallis, we think.
Here at the "city farm" Homestead headquarters

our mission is to plant for the wildlife and it is times like this that bring us joy.
A dear friend has a grandson who loves the outdoors, bugs, information about them and leaves grandma on watch over his caterpillar. I get a text while out helping my dad.

Me. I am out but on it as soon as I get home.
Lo and behold,. There were 2 gulf fritillary caterpillars plus what looks like a fall webworm chrysalis on the food for the fritillary.

When you stop by our gardening stand you'll see our property is fluttering with moths

and butterflies this time of year. I got a glimpse of a checkered white (Ponitis protodice) as well.
 
Part of our mission is to help educate the youth. We have shared some gulf fritillary caterpillars and the native passion fruit it will live on until it is ready to make their chrysalis. One home has had success with it making the cocoon. Here is another one ready for it new journey.

It is that time of year for Barbados 🍒. These will be eaten before the birds 🐦 get them. There are aboit 3-4 small small seeds in each one. We will share cuttings at our plant n seed exchanges in the fall.
