Figs loves to grow in our Sonoran desert šŸœ.
However, this year, the heat came before they were ripe. They are not ripening in this heat and you can see the sugars from the Osborne prolific green fig popping out of the skin.
The Violetta de Bordeaux red fig is taking too much time to ripen as well. The ants 🐜 and birds 🐦 are on it so fast.
The brown bags are going up over whats left today, but with our monsoon winds, it is touchy.
Figs can also be trained to grow along a wall for an easier reach of the fruit. This horticultural technique is called espalier.
Check it out and see if this is your style of gardening.

Meet your host, Alison Fay Martinez of the
Green Brick Garden
Gilbert, AZ U.S.A.

Why do I like to garden: I enjoy learning about new plants. I love all the varieties I can grow. I love to experiment with new plants that I didn’t know could grow in my region.

Why do I like to garden: I love seeing things grow and establish. I planted a seed, had a propagation, or even a cutting. I love to nurture the plant throughout its stages in life. The plants bring me happiness and I try my best to bring them happiness. My grandfather was an avid gardener, and he instilled that gardening onto me. He always had a crop of veggies growing. Those memories have lasted a lifetime for me.

What is my favorite part about hosting a stand and being part of the mission: Sharing! I have the opportunity to share all of my plants. I also have the opportunity to receive other plants that I can grow, and share with everyone. We are a community that shares knowledge. Some of the items at my stand, I have never heard of. The person that left the plants will leave information for the obscure plants, so everyone will know what it is and how to care for it. The plant stands that participate are very informative, and they spread knowledge to the rest of the people that visit the stands.

In last night's storm this Palo Verde beetle, which is harmless, was hangling onto our curtin in the garage. I brought it in and asked a few friends if their kids wanted it so they could get a closer look and then release it.

Rumor has it that these seedlings donated to use by Botanical Interests Seed Packets
will make it to the Propagation Workshop w/ Pima County Master Gardener in a few days.
They are coming along nicely.
We look forward to you learning something new
āœØļø about seeds,
šŸƒ germination,
ā°ļø when and,
🌱 what to plant together.
šŸŒž Plus, so much more.

Meet your host Sarah Lynn who runs The Happy Frog Stand
Chandler, Arizona. USA
I like to garden because it’s meditative, makes me feel productive, and is good for the planet.

I would say my gardening journey started from a very young age. Working with my grandma in her garden. Getting to dig up worms to feed the koi in her pond and taste all the wonderful fruits of our labor!

My favorite part of hosting the stand is meeting my community. Knowing how much a small thing like this can touch so many people’s lives is such an amazing feeling!
