free raging in the hood

My neighbor hated me for having roosters too until about a month after we got them. They heard the crowing so much that it didn't bother them anymore. I use to wake up every morning when I heard them but now I don't even hear them when I'm sleeping.

Thank you all for my gracious welcome! Best interactions I've had all week. I am quite interested in you as a group of kind chickeneers and will keep checking in. By the way, it's snowing here on the Monterey Bay, a very rare day here.
Re: the owl decoy. We live across the street from this huge wildlife reserve. The Elkhorn Slough and there are white owls in my trees at night. But, I might try a daytime owl to see what happens. Thanks again

from Ohio. I agree with Wild Trapper about the owl decoy. I have used one to keep my hens from coming up to the house and scratching all the mulch out of my flower beds. Good luck.

Hello Hesperia thanks for the welcome
Thank you wildtrapper for the decoy owl website. Pinky, I'm with you, I usually stop hearing animal sounds after a short while, in fact, this is a wildlife reserve and birders heaven, so, I'm always hearing "bird talk". This bird, though, makes a special trip to "holla" at me. I'm inclined to agree with HHbasket, that he's trying to make sure that I visit your forum. Seems to have some sort of message for me. Hope it doesn't have anything to do with mating.

was going to suggest the owl also, OR you could get your own rooster. A bigger rooster to chase him off! OK I try to enable everyone. LOL

Over the years I've shocked people when I complain about the weather. I've lived in the snow for short times, but I'm a Bay Area girl. Some people don't even realize it rains here. LOL

Too many song lyrics saying otherwise.

Well Wolftracks a bigger rooster. Brilliant!! Don't tempt me.
on another subject. You've been down my way to Santa Cruz/Monterey area right? You know how mild it usually is. Well, it did snow yesterday. So, cool. Right by the ocean.

It's been a long time since I've been to Modesto. I used to have to go to training there on Blue Gum Ave, I think. Do you all grow a lot of almonds or is that just in the Merced area? ANyway, thanks for the bigger rooster laugh. I haven't solved my problem yet, but I thank you all for being entertaining.

I know there's a lot of nuts here. LOL
I've only been here for 2 years now. Grew up in Oakland and lived in Union City for decades. I remember when I was in elementery school and it snowed in Oakland. Man did we have fun. About 20 years ago I used to take care of a lot of financing and one of the places I would go was Scotts Valley. It snowed one day and I found a coffee shop and sat and watched. Boss called and wanted to know where I was and I told him. Said I'd see him in the morning. LOL He almost complained until I said "you pay me how much?" He laughed and said have fun.
Only been to Montery three times and never got to really do anything. Last time was last year about this time and went to Fort Ord and back.
Yeah from the few times I've seen it, snow and the ocean??????????? I loved it. Still hate the snow though. LOL
OK since you mentioned the street. What the heck is Blue Gum? Seen the street, but I'm lost with that one.

Oh.......if you need that big rooster I can send you one to raise. Have lots of babies right now. Add a couple of hens and you can have eggs whenever you want. I have some big chickens. If I can enable I'll even give you some. hehe

I have found water to solve lots of annoying animal problems.

I would hook up a lawn sprinkler aimed at the spot where he stands, figure out how to control it from inside the house, and spray him when he starts in the morning.

If the time he comes is consistently the same, put the sprinkler on a timer.

Or jerryrig something up to your window.

You mentioned he stands out from where your dog sleeps - is he screaming at your dog?
