I'm going to go look at the hardware store for some big bulk boxes. I need a lot. I have a 7000 SQ foot run.

I honestly think putting them in the big dog kennel is probably best for them. They're getting on my last nerve though and to think I just got 3 more ducks

Ok, so check this out. I just put my 2 young drakes and 2 young ducks (their sisters) in their own area because those young drakes didn't know how to act. I've got a 4' welded wire fence between the 2 runs and there is only maybe about 2 -2.5' between the top of that fence and the roof of the run which is all welded wire too.

Today I went out to give them their treat basins and in the young duck run there were only 3. I freaked out! WTHeck happened to Jonah the young f/w drake!!!

Well, I looked at the fence line and there he was in the other run! No breaches in the fencing at all. I looked all over and I'm thinking the only way he could have got over that fence is by flying. It's an Indian runner!

So, I put him back in the other run where he belongs and a few hours later he's back in that other run!

I can't get wifi out there because it's too far from the house and if I put my deer cam out there it would take about a million pictures because it's triggered from the action of the motion. I don't know how he's getting in there!

I guess it depends on where you are because they work great for me!

Probably so! I like the thick plastic ones at Lowe’s but it can get pricy if you have to buy quite a bit but they stay in the ground here.

If you have other free range Ducks they can also go too. Always be careful about predators though.

Mine are out free ranging when I’m home to keep an eye on them, otherwise they have a run they stay in. I made a pallet fence and used those cheap step in steel posts with old fashioned wood snow fence to make the perimeter, and then I strung electric on the outside to keep critters out, and a wire along the top so the darn goose doesn’t try to flop-hop up and over. No way they can lift any of it, and the electric does a good job of protecting them when I’m not watching. They also know to take shelter when a predator (at least of the feathered kind) goes over, and I have a number of hides throughout the yard for them to run to. So far so good

Thanks for sharing. I'm going to put them in the kennel let them know it's home with the shelter then let them free range next week and see if they'll go back in themselves. The Drake is all hormonal too so it'll be best to separate him from the chickens for now.

I keep all of their “good things” in their pen, I trained mine to come when I shook the bag of mealworms. now literally anything that sounds or looks remotely like it, they come running. They do seem to know where home is. good luck and enjoy them wandering around the property chattering to each other!
