I live deep in the sticks of southern ohio an my birds are turned out at about 7/8 everyday they all come home to roost an the majority lay in the nest box or on the floor i have tried everythin balls to eggs no convincing some of them my question is
Is it to much free range time i always though they seemed better off out an about doing there own chicken thing am i wrong or right on this.... Thanks

Sometimes chickens just like to lay where ever. Others have a favorite nesting box and if it has another hen or two in it then they will lay on the ground.

Well i thought of that so i kept them in the pen for a few days no change in eggs!!
I have 4 hens i was particulary wonder about kept them penned up for 4 days no change in egg count my RIR's lay almost white shell eggs as for the other 2 couldnt say never got an egg from them lol
