Free rangeing eggs

Mine have always laid in their nestboxes in their coop. Every once in awhile I suspect that they are laying elsewhere, but never find any on an easter egg hunt.

Mine would lay under one particular bush. I then created a box for them to use outside and some would use that and some would use the bush. Then one day they just all started laying in the nest box inside their coop - I think they were about 8 months old when they finally figured it out. I also have to leave one "real" egg in the nest when I'm collecting or else they have a fit and run around squawking. I've tried leaving a "fake" egg but they know. Silly chickens!

Some folks will leave them in their coop/run until after lunch time, because most hens lay in the morning, and then they'll let them range the rest of the day. Just a thought!

Mine come back to the coop to lay. If you have any trouble, you can just keep them in the the run for a bit, to see how many eggs you should be getting each day. It also retrains them to lay in the nest boxes.
