Free ranging a flock of Cockerels

A lot definitely depends on the breeds. If you have a bunch of fat birds that can’t fly up to a 4ft fence then it’s probably not the best idea. Common sense goes a long way.

What exactly do you agree with? Are you saying allowing birds to free range is irresponsible?
I see two options here with you:

Respond honestly and let you goad me on, just for entertainment value

Or

Post this and move on.

I have 4 grown roosters. The Dad and Three sons and they get along just fine with each other. They roost in the same coop and free range during the day along with sixteen hens. I'll be introducing them to 18 more hens here shortly. I see no reason not to do it like you stated. They have food, water and shelter. If the woman who will be staying on your property has a dog there want be any predators. I have fifty chickens ,four dogs and no predators of any kind and I live out in the middle of nowhere. And my dogs don't mess with the chickens.

Hello everyone! I want to thank you all for providing feedback and I respect everyone’s opinions even if I may not entirely agree with them. Trust me, the last thing I ever want to do is just take my little guys and abandon them somewhere. My street used to be notorious for people dumping stray cats. My family (mostly my mom) always fed them, even if we didn’t bring them in and make sure they had a safe, loving home. We loved them and did what we could for them, so we’ve had our fair share of helping those animals that were given up, even if we couldn’t do so as nicely as the ASPCA might be able to (so try to keep them in mind if you feel I might be behaving cruelly to my little roos).

BUT I have some good news for those who were worried about the little guys ... My dad and I were able to put together a bachelor pad for the boys on the property across the street. It’s probably twice as big as their current space and has a little wooden shed for them to roost in at night and the fenced area is fully covered. It isn’t Fort Knox, but I feel so much better being able to give them this protection.

Again, thanks for all the feedback!
