If they are contained in a yard, the yard is acting as a run. I would be surprised if you had a wild animal attack, but not a neighborhood dog.

8 adult chickens will put quite a bit of pressure on your grass and any ornamental planting’s. Just a heads up.

We've had a hawk perched on a fence in the yard when some of our pullets were young, but no other issues. We have had coyotes actually seen in the neighborhood recently, but they haven't come over the wall. I still leave my girls out all day, home or not. It's a risk no matter where you live, but one I'll take to make them happy.
