Free "rare" mystery chick? UPDATE: New Pictures!

I would sure think that you would get extra chicks with your order. We are getting 25 hens on March 19th from Murry McMurry and I'm thinking because of our Minnesota weather they will send extras to me as well!?! And the "rare" chick has always been a rooster. Never got a "roo" before. But I would think he doesn't want to leave his mom and friends in the 100 acre woods.

That's an awesome idea! Post some pictures of your past or new mystery chicks. I will have one up as soon as I get my little gals on Feb. 20th. I can't wait to see these pictures- so fun. Keep the info coming!

My mystery chicken was a black cochin rooster. He was gorgeous and the kids loved him. He followed me around like a puppy and would even curl up with the dogs in the dog house. He quickly became the family pet. All of the others chickens were jealous of him because he was so handsome lol. It didn't bother him, he thought he was a dog or human anyways. One of the best we've ever had.

When you receive your chicks....and they send extra's or Mystery chicks, how do you know which ones are the extra chicks or mystery chicks? Seems to me they all look so similar...does the hatchery mark them somehow? I look forward to seeing the pictures as well, and would also like to know what breeds you got and if they are hens or roo's

Well basically you have to either a.) wait until they are older or b.) go on the McMurray website and check out the videos and pictures they have posted of all the breeds of chicks that you ordered. The hatchery does not mark them. I ordered 2 golden polish hens, 2 auracana hens, 2 black star hens, 2 red star hens, 2 cuckoo maran hens, 2 buff orpington hens, and 14 jumbo cornish x rock meat hens. I got a new fancy camera for Christmas so I will have plenty of pictures for all of you!
