I would be angry if I knew I had been lied to. Not about what they did with the roosters. If you don't want your purebred roosters resold, don't give them away free. Charge a few bucks for them. That weeds out the 'free meals' and 'resellers'.

There will be a day, maybe not directly related, but sooner or later, their chicken karma will come back and bite them in there tail feathers. As for you being POed, that is your right. Personally, and being one of the 60,000+ compassionate BYC members, I would be mad too, but as previously pointed out, once they left your property and the well being of your home, you had done all you could. A little late for this or your past experience, but many folks who list their animals on Craig’s List, charge a "re-homing" fee. You can always waive it when you meet them and if there's a good vibe. The down side of course and especially with roosters, it will probably reduce and could even completely eliminate potential callers. Finally, maybe some advance research or have some contacts made in advance, like 4-H. Good luck in your future and hope this helps.

I understand what you are saying. A while back I sold some roosters for $4 or $5 each at a swap. The guy turned around and sold them for $10 to $20 each about 30 minutes later .... right in front of me. Lesson learned; price them higher!

Oh well .... I got rid of my extra roosters (prefer to look at the postive side of the matter).

I have given away hundreds of chicks and chickens the past few months. I think most of them went to very happy homes, though I did not do a background check on them. However, if I have a special chick or chicken that I feel must be rehomed, I do make an effort to assure the home is to my satisfaction. Honestly though, I have enough to worry about with my own flock, my keepers, and do not waste my time and energy worrying about the ones that I did not keep.

I don't think I'd be able to resist flagging their post... that is fraud.

You entered into a verbal agreement with them, then they failed to uphold their end.

Just my opinion, but people who claim they're something they aren't don't sit well with me.

shes right, contact the admins of that sight emmediately! thats insane and i totally understand if you feel awful about the situation. i donated an easter egger to the local 4-h community and hounded the woman running it to make sure she got a good home. i hope you got them back! i think id just buy em back.

Well, I also participate with Freecycle... where you offer things FREE or ask for FREE things... like one I responded on was a lady looking for size 6 clothes... my DD is 7... that kind of thing.

If it turned out that lady was running a resale shop I'd be royally pizzed off, and so would the admin.

Well, I got to admit, I would be ticked about being lied to.

But you were more than happy to pass your extra/surplus/unwanted roosters on to some one else.

If you gonna raise chickens you better be prepared to deal with the extra roosters.

Many years ago, I had some mixed-breed bunnies that I needed to be rid of. I placed a "bunnies for sale" ad. After I had re-homed (cheaply) all of the ones I intended to, I got a phone call from this guy. I told him that all of the rabbits described in the ad had been sold; the only ones I had left wouldn't be good pets because they were sneezing (a chronic, contagious condition called snuffles) and really ought to be killed and eaten. Oh, they didn't care about the sneezing, they just liked bunnies, etc. When they came to get them, I once again voiced my opinion that these rabbits should probably be culled. I mentioned that several were bucks and would need to be separated. Each time, he assured me that they would build more cages or do whatever was needed to make the rabbits happy. I feel like I gave him every chance to admit the truth, but he started in this story, and by gum he was sticking to it! When they drove out of the yard, I told my husband, "they are going to eat those rabbits."

(You might wonder why I let him have those rabbits [free, BTW], if I was so sure he was lying to me. The way I saw it, I wanted to be rid of them, and he would actually be doing me a favor by doing something I hadn't the nerve to do myself - killing them.)

A week or so later, the same man bumped into my husband in one of the local stores. "Those rabbits were so good," he said. "If she ever has any more she can't get rid of, give me a call." When hubby told me about this conversation later, I said, "over my dead body! I don't care that they ate them; I told him that's all they were really good for. But he lied to me. Lie, after lie, after lie. I'm not a child that needs to be shielded from the truth! If he ever shows up here again, I'll run him out of here with a baseball bat!"

So yes, I understand that you are angry that you were deceived, but would you be any happier if those roosters had been killed and eaten, and you just didn't know?

The only thing I would be mad about is the lying.

The pets section of our local CL is a nightmare and there is a couple of people who constantly "flip" free or cheap pets.

Good luck to anyone who can sell a rooster around here. I've quit trying. I just automatically assume they are going to be someones dinner around here anymore so I give them away younger and let them finish growing them out.

As many others have indicated, I would be ticked because of being lied to. When you have this vision in your head (painted there by the scammer) of your roosters happily running around w/their own harem of hens on farm acreage, it's difficult to come down from having that image shattered.
Put it out of your head though, and stick blinders on, because it's out of your hands now. Yes, you can report it to CL, but whether you can prove what's happening to admin. is debatable. Live and learn, and know that most folks are pretty honest (I keep telling myself that at least...lol).
