Freedom of choice

Reinbeau how do you manage to keep your sanity living in the Boston
area with such a pragmatic and Libertarian attitude? You must have tough
skin.

It could drive me absolutely crazy, PC, but I've found there's quite a few of us here - and we seem to find each other, thankfully. I just sit here and shake my head at it all - I read the Globe (just to keep up with what the loons are going on about now) and am utterly amazed at how much people are willing to give up when they've been buffaloed into believing it's for the greater good.

Plus I don't live in Boston proper, thank goodness. I'm in a little conservative-minded enclave down here on the South Shore. Down to earth, real people surrounded by masses of insanity! And yes, I do have very tough skin! And a good sense of humor, we need it around here!

Why do I bang my head against a brick wall? Because it feels so good when I stop!

What you suggest has been tried and the Dairy board lobbied to stop it from happening because direct distribution means they don't get a cut of the action and can't control it.

If you wish I have a 100+ page transcript of one of the more recent attempts.

Actually, I would like to see that. Can you send/post a link as PDF?

Down to earth, real people

Hey, I am a real person! I'm not any more insane than the next guy. <stands next to PurpleChicken>

Here in Vermont one can legally buy raw goat or cow's milk from a dairy farmer. I think a person is limited to 5 gallons per day or something.

No one has died yet.

with #1 here in texas we can sell 10,000 processed birds without inspection,,,,,, #2 is like that here,, i was gonna start a BBQ take out here,, i have HUNDREDS of people who want me too,,,but i have to prepare EVERYTHING in its own building,, am NOT allowed to prepare it in my kitchen, then serve it,, then ya get into all the things that "other" building needs.

I understand what you said concerning #2 but when it includes the fact I can't even serve meat to guests in my own home at dinner time because it didn't come from a store. That is going way to far.

Are they living in NY state ???? YES
Does the Dairy have a raw milk permit?? YES
Is it PROHIBITED according to the LAWS of NY STATE??? YES

The point is it is the LAW they are breaking the LAW, just because I know how to use DYNAMITE that doesnt mean I should be allowed to obtain it, and you cant. Because when you blow your hand off your gonna be the first one in line to get disability because you lost the use of your hand, and then you will be calling a lawyer because the ACME dynamite co didnt check your credentials before selling you the product.

If you dont like the laws get them changed legally or you are illegal, and breaking the law. So the farmers should suck it up and play within the rules that are in place or face the consequences.

Marlinchaser, sorry but that old cliche "If you dont like the laws get them changed legally..." just doesn't fly with anyone who knows the reality of fighting large corporations and paying some mercenary, social-parasite lawyer to rob you blind and sell you out. Getting laws changed after they've been bought and paid for just ain't anywhere nearly that easy as your canned phrase suggests, no matter how many times it's repeated. Now if you're a stubborn, angry millionaire with a cause then...

I didnt say it was gonna be easy or that it was gonna happen, but if you go into something KNOWING that it is illegal dont go crying that they(big brother/the law) is taking actions against you. If you know that if/when you get caught taking a cookie your gonna get grounded, dont cry that its not fair because billy next door is allowed a cookie before dinner. Same thing but on a larger scale the dairy saw a chance to make a profit(lets here how the government is trying to squish the little guy) and attempted to bypass the laws that are in place. Whether they will ever get the laws changed, or whether it is legal to do in the next state over or the other side of the globe, its ILLEGAL/AGAINST THE RULES/ NOT ALLOWED how many ways does it have to be said fair or not its WRONG.

And sometimes it takes a little civil disobedience to draw public attention to a law in order to get it changed. History is full of those examples.

Disobedience is OK, just dont expect everyone to feel sorry because you broke the law to prove a point, when the law does all it can to break that disobedience be it a fine taking away your property or letting you rot in jail. If there were no laws do you think this would be a better place?

So rather than ban people from having a chance to be responsible WHY NOT just make them all sign waivers??? That's what piercing parlors do....Also, there's no ban on selling/buying alcohol, and alcohol, even in the 'right' hands, could do more damage than ppl consuming unpasturized milk. Have them sign a waiver, a waiver that lists all the risks and whatnot from unpasturized milk. Then if someone dies no one gets sued....cause I'm totally gonna leave milk in the trunk for a months, but I guess someone might. Then it's their own stupid fault.
