Freedom Ranges Dying

WOW, 30? Thats to bad. maybe I will. Everyone was alive when we got them. I just think its a heat issue. I will have to get longer chains to hag the lights from.

I always use pine shavings but yes a foot should be fine. the chicks will let you know. I wouldn't worry about a fire it would have to be sitting directly on it to get hot enough. I also used a heavy drop cloth and drapped it over the brooder to minimize heat loss. Hopefully it warms up so your chicks do better.

Wow, this thread is a bummer, considering I just ordered some Rangers from JM, hoping for a change from the horrible season I'm having with Cornish X losses.

I agree with the others saying it's a heat issue.

The Rangers I've received from JM have always been amazingly healthy.

I was not not try to question the health of them. I got 51 last year and they were all great! This years came in all healthy( exept for 1 eye Jack). I lowered the lightsast night and the they all chilled, streching legs a d laying around. There were a couple lethargic ones, real small. I put a small waterer in there and dipped there beaks. They drank alot and went to sleep. I will be going out Ina bit on my way to work. I will update how they did when I get to work.

We received our order from JM on this past Thursday. 100 rangers. All alive and doing well. Eating, drinking, running and flapping. They are outside in the "condominium" that is inside the bigger coop.

Two heat lamps. No losses. I'm guessing that these birds came from the same batch as the ones listed above as having arrived on Friday.

Use a thermometer to check the temperature if you are worried. For the first week, something in the 90s is good.

The one little one was dead this morning. There are still a couple that are much smaller. The heat was the issue. They are not all standing up directly under the light. They are more like laying with there legs and wings spread out. They are still sleeping in groups. They seem less strung out.
