Freeze Drying Digest

Freeze dried pumpkin pie. That sounds really good. Is it crunchy or chewy?
We shall see.
I made it in a chocolate graham crust and it's good like a normal pie. But I'll let you know on the FD bit in about 36 hours.
DH LOVES the taste of pumpkin pie, but not the texture. I'm hoping this helps. AND I know it will be a hit at scout summer camp. If it turns out.

CRUNCHY! like that sea foam candy. DH LOVES IT!
It's been 24 hours, and I already added two, so the load took 22 hours, but I added that two because I wasn't ready. I just tested it at 24 and the pineapple isn't quite done. So I flipped them all over and added another 4.
also got an avid armor sealer yesterday in the post as my other sealer died (not the HR one)

My DH tried a FD strawberry yesterday and said it tasted like strawberry Styrofoam. 😂😂😂 I imagine the pumpkin pie being the same?

But how do you get a whole pie in the FD?

I have three 55-gallon drums that I use as vertical strawberry beds. I'm getting a nice little mess (10ish?) of strawberries very few days. Not enough to really do anything with except snack on. I did FD some along with the store bought strawberries.

Anyway, today I was eating some of the Mara Des Bois strawberries I have and swear to the good Lord above that they are the BEST strawberries I've ever had in my life. The flavor is simply incredible. Almost like candy... I want to get more beds and plant more of them so I can FD a flat of them. Simply incredible...

Another lesson learned, along with a save. 😂

The seasoned cucumber chips finished this morning. I was in a rush to feed animals so I opened the door to the FD intending to take out the cucumbers but got distracted and walked away.

An hour and a half later, I remembered... By this time, the FD was well into thaw and that moisture was starting to rehydrate the cucumbers juuuuust a little bit. I really didn't want to sit through another day to start the process over... So, here's my save.

I transferred the chips to a cookie sheet. Sprayed them with EVO and added a touch of salt. Popped them in the oven at 250 degrees for 12 minutes.

Came out wonderful.
