that wouldnt be bad though, a huge freezer full of chicken..i say go for it! then you will have all the meat you need for the winter!

I had some birds that hatched at the end of April, they laid in the following year like gangbusters!

I got some Welsummer bantam pullets that hatched at the end of March, still no eggs, their combs were red but now they are pink. So it may be spring before they will lay! I have to be patient so if they will lay, they will lay at their own time!

Patience is the key, some breeds lay later than others, more so on the breeder, show exhibit birds than hatchery stock.

I'm not trying to be mean but its gonna be hard for some of us on here to hear that that many birds are going to freezer camp because they are slow layers.

. That seems a little harsh... I'd wait til spring or sell them. People are always looking for hens, I'm sure you could get rid of them that way. If they were young when you got them they very well might wait for spring, at which point you'll have more eggs than you know what to do with. If they were supposed to be laying when you got them could the person have lied about heir age? What breed are they? I have some girls I've been waiting on for what seems like forever, but at this point I'm not expecting anything until spring. Out of somewhere around 35 chickens, I'm only getting 2 eggs. During the summer I was getting 3. All of my girls are pretty young except for my 3 australorps and my salmon faverolle. Sammy has stopped laying since she was attacked by a dog and is just adding variety to the yard. If you aren't enjoying your chickens then by all means sell them, otherwise just wait.

Not slow layers. NO LAYERS. They are about 35 weeks old, raised them from day olds. I even put lights in the roost when the days started shortening. If I were getting any eggs, just a few, I could give them a reprieve, but nothing. I mean do they eventually HAVE to lay. Could I have by some freak chance gotten hens that will never lay?

May be hard to hear that they are going to freezer camp, but I have put in lots of time, money. Gonna get something out of it. Even if I have to eat chicken everyday till next summer.

Where are you located? I can tell you I would be willing to buy some from you as long as they aren't ancient Granny hens

We slaughter if they don't lay or slow down so much that it doesn't make sense to feed them and as another poster pointed out, you won't have to buy chicken at the store all winter!
