Freezer Camp For The Whole Flock!!!!!!!!!

Hey George,

Process them all if that's what you want to do. I've got no problem with it. I definitely understand wanting to eat something that you've put that much time, effort, and feed into. Whether it be eggs or meat, there should be some reward for the effort. Might I suggest though, that you process one for Sunday dinner. That would give the satisfaction of getting some reward for your effort and give the other 24 chickens a week to produce something. Next Sunday, if no eggs, process another. Think you see the pattern starting to develop. You'll eventually either get tired of chicken for dinner, or eggs will show up. Who wants to process 25 chickens all at once anyway, unless they are the meaties.

it seems this thread was started but he must have had a feast or did not like the answers cause no responce.

Bless you. I agree. Some people should not have any animals. They do not understand the nature of living things. Or they didn't do their homework.

35 weeks old and no eggs? I don't think anyone can guarantee George that his chickens are laying.Maybe they are and again maybe they have not
started laying yet. I like having my chickens and love fooling around with them as often as I can every day but in the end they are really on
my place for 2 main purposes; eggs and meat..Food.
Some people should not have animals? Why, just because they choose to butcher them? Nothing better than a home raised chicken, beef calf or hog, that
we butcher ourselves to put food in the freezer.
But it does seem as if this post was put her to get ya'll all riled up as it seems killing and processing our own animal seems to stir some people up on here.

And I bet you know where the "vent" is.

One reason I started chickens in the fall my first year. Eggs next spring right on time.

I even had some eggs in Feb. Those dark layers were trying my patience though. They don't want to lay until about 32weeks but well worth the wait. I had xlarge dark brown eggs everywhere all this year. Butchering them now really doesn't gain anything and I do kind of agree that someone who loses their patience so easily might not be the best animal owner. Going off on a flock of chickens and not thinking it through does look badly. If you wait till next spring they will all start laying. If you kill them now and get new chicks you have to wait till fall again and then there is no gurantee you will get much for eggs before they stop for the year which could currently be the problem anyway. Then what? Another dead flock? While I have no problem butchering my chickens and have a bunch of roos to do asap it's a complete waste to butcher young hens of laying breed just getting ready to lay. At minimum if I decided they were poor stock I'd sell them to someone who is patient and use the money to get chicks of different breeding. A young laying hen isn't going to be worth the money and effort as dinner anyway. You will get more back out of them to sell them to someone else than to stack your freezer full.

This may qualify as the longest thread in history without OP being involved after the very beginning. I have now figured out how to get out of the thread killer rut. Throw something out there and stay far far away. LOL. I suspect Chicken George knows full well about his pullets and their iminent egg laying, but has been enjoying this thread of advise from afar. LOL. I have been enjoying it as well.

Well done Mr. George wherever you are. I think he said ealier he will be hunting so hoping the best for that empty freezer.

By the way I threatened mine with the same today. 3 lousy eggs out of some 15 nice young hens. Tsk tsk tsk.

I am guessing that minus 16 degrees F affected their attitude some. No frozen combs, hope we are done with that for a while. Yikes waterers and everything a pain in the butt when it gets this cold. Better today

As far as processing one's own birds no problem for me. I just wouldn't want him balancing my check book LOL. Expensive freezer birds at this point.

Instead of where's Waldo, should we ask where's George......

I just crack myself up too much......I know that God had a sense of humor, I'm living proof!

Have a blessed evening y'all..................

I know this might sound a bit weird but is it possible that he was "trolling"? For anyone who doesn't know what a troll is, it's a person who says things to get people stirred up so that the "troller" can sit back and watch the chaos that comes.

I would not ever think about freezer camp for my chickens. He did say the free range. Is it possible they are laying during the day when out side the coop. Chickens are pretty good at hideing there eggs as free rangers. Just a thought. I did not read any thing about this in the post. But I did not read ever one .
