You're being too hasty.... why throw away the investment you've already made? consider the fact that they've gone through a hot summer, they've still had to grow their adult plumage, they may even have had a bit of a molt in there somewhere, and now the daylight hours are shorter... they're just really getting into what could possibly be their laying time, despite the shorter days. I would bet that if you be patient, feed them a good quality food through the winter, when the days get warmer this spring you'll probably be delighted with your egg laying ladies! (unless of course you have a passel of roosters, and then you just have trouble... ;-)
